PCB Layout Designer This role is focused on translating schematics into high-performance, manufacturable PCB layouts across a wide variety of industries and applications. You'll work in a fast-paced, multi-project environment, collaborating closely with electrical engineers and clients to ensure designs meet real-world requirements—from signal integrity to thermal performance and physical constraints. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role for someone who truly enjoys PCB layout as their craft—not a stepping stone into electrical engineering. What You'll Do Convert electrical schematics into optimized PCB layouts for production Manage multiple concurrent projects (ranging from days to weeks in duration) Collaborate closely with: Electrical engineers Cross-functional internal teams External clients Ensure designs meet requirements for: Signal integrity EMI/EMC compliance Thermal performance Manufacturability (DFM/DFA) Iterate quickly in a dynamic development environment Contribute across the full product lifecycle, from concept through commercialization What You Bring Experience 5-15+ years of PCB layout/design experience (10+ years strongly preferred) Background in: Product development or design services firms (highly preferred) Medical devices, IoT, or electronics industries Independent consulting environments (a strong plus) Tools Experience with at least one of the following: Altium Designer (preferred) Siemens Expedition PADS Technical Skills Experience with high-speed PCB design Exposure to mixed-signal environments (RF, analog, and digital) Solid understanding of: Signal integrity EMI/EMC considerations Thermal constraints Ability to design for real-world manufacturing and performance Who You Are A craft-driven PCB designer who takes pride in layout quality and precision Comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously Strong communicator with the ability to work directly with engineers and clients Detail-oriented and process-driven Passionate about PCB layout as a long-term career path What This Role Is NOT ❌ A pathway into schematic design or electrical engineering ❌ A slow, single-project environment ❌ A role with limited exposure to the end product ❌ A low-volume design role (this is high repetition and hands-on) Why Join Nottingham Spirk? Work on a wide variety of products and industries (not repetitive work) See your designs make it into real, shipped products Collaborate in a highly integrated innovation environment Gain exposure to the entire product lifecycle Be part of a firm known for speed, execution, and commercialization success Interview Screening Questions How many boards are you laying out per month? Do you prefer working on multiple projects or one long-term program? Do you see PCB layout as your long-term career, or are you looking to move into engineering? Have you worked directly with clients or cross-functional teams? What types of boards (high-speed, RF, mixed-signal) have you worked on recently? Interested in this role?
