Sr Specialist, EH&S Operations - Shared Services Consolidated Edison Company of York $105,000.00 - $135,000.00 / yr United States, York, Astoria Jun 27, 2026 Overview Make a real impact on safety across critical operations. Were seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Senior Specialist to support high-impact operational teams within our Shared Services organization. This role is primarily focused on advancing workplace safety across a diverse set of internal operations, including Transportation, Facilities, Fleet Operations, and Materials Management & Warehousing (Supply Chain/Stores operations). This position plays a critical role in driving a proactive safety culture, strengthening regulatory compliance, and supporting safe, reliable operations across essential infrastructure services. The role primarily supports operations in Queens, including the Astoria Distribution Center, The Learning Center in Long Island City, and the College Point Service Center. You will work closely with Operations leadership and frontline employees to proactively identify risk, improve safety performance, and ensure compliance. Responsibilities Core Responsibilities Serve as a trusted EHS advisor to leaders and frontline employees, with a strong emphasis on workplace safety, providing practical guidance, risk identification, and real-world solutions across transportation, fleet, facilities, and supply chain operations. Lead and support incident investigations, including motor vehicle collisions (MVCs), injuries, illnesses, and near misses, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and timely, accurate documentation within MAXIMOour enterprise incident management system used to track and manage safety events. Design and implement safety-focused EHS programs that strengthen compliance and risk mitigation, including Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Job Site Safety Evaluations (JSSEs), hazard assessments, and occupational health programs such as respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and injury/illness prevention. Drive engagement in the field by leading safety conversations, participating in job briefings, and reinforcing safe work practices through site visits and operational interaction. Conduct internal inspections and field observations to proactively identify hazards, verify compliance, and support continuous improvement in safety performance. Apply human performance and error prevention principles to reduce risk, prevent injuries, and improve operational reliability. Support environmental response activities when needed, including spill response, reporting, containment, and proper waste management practices. Ensure environmental compliance through proper waste handling, characterization, storage, and coordination of hazardous, universal, and non-hazardous waste disposal. Review and provide input on Environmental, Health & Safety Plans (EHASPs) to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and internal safety expectations. Maintain operational flexibility, including travel to various work locations and participation in emergency response as needed. Qualifications Required Education/Experience High School Diploma/GED and 8 years of relevant experience or Associate's Degree and 5 years of relevant experience or Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience or Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience Preferred Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree and experience within the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) discipline or in roles focused on electric distribution systems Associate's Degree and experience within the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) discipline or in roles focused on electric distribution systems High School Diploma/GED and experience within the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) discipline or in roles focused on electric distribution systems Relevant Work Experience Successful completion of position-specific EH&S training as applicable, required. Ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence, and understand the vital importance of personal accountability, required. Ability to effectively interact with various levels of personnel, required. Strong team player and demonstrated ability to obtain results, required. Excellent organizational skills and ability to successfully complete multiple tasks without compromising quality or timeliness, required. Strong EH&S knowledge in asbestos, OSHA requirements, and HazWaste/Environmental regulation, required. Safety and environmental incident response, required. Strong leadership skills, ability to initiate and champion change, and influence and persuade others in order to improve work practices/processes, required. Ability to develop concepts into successful safety and environmental programs, preferred. Skills and Abilities Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc. Effective interpersonal skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities Licenses and Certifications Driver's License Required Physical Demands Ability to respond to system emergencies Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces) Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies Additional Physical Demands The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Position requires extensive walking, stair and ladder climbing. Must be physically able to wear a respirator and work in difficult environments (heat, noise and confined spaces). Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed. Must be available to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
