They are currently seeking a skilled Fire Protection Engineer to join their team in Philadelphia. This role involves performing essential engineering tasks, including fire suppression design, fire alarm design, building assessments, code consulting, and egress analysis. The successful candidate will work alongside a dedicated team of Fire Protection Engineers, contributing to a variety of projects nationwide. These projects span multiple sectors, such as healthcare, industrial sites, information technology facilities, educational institutions, museums, and more. Key Responsibilities:
Develop and prepare comprehensive Code Studies and Life Safety Plans for complex projects. Collaborate with Project Architects in preparing and reviewing Life Safety Plans and Code Studies. Create and manage Fire Suppression and Fire Alarm contract documents, supporting Plumbing and Electrical Engineers as needed. Assist in code reviews and interpretations, providing expertise to ensure compliance. Conduct site water supply analysis to support fire suppression system design. Work closely with Project Architects to address building attributes, including egress, construction types, and barrier selection. Evaluate fire suppression systems, integrating them with architectural and engineering disciplines. Review shop drawings for Sprinkler and Fire Alarm systems to ensure accuracy and compliance. Assist with the performance of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) fire modeling and Egress Modeling, analyzing results to inform design decisions. Lead meetings with clients, code officials, and project stakeholders to discuss and resolve fire protection and life safety code issues. Engage in regional, national, and international travel to support project requirements.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering or Architectural Engineering. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one state, with credentials suitable for registration in other states. 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in fire protection engineering. Proven experience in the analysis and design of building fire safety systems. Expertise in code consulting, including familiarity with ICC and
NFPA 101
standards. Strong skills in suppression and detection system design. Proficiency in using relevant software, such as Microsoft Office Suite, FDS, AutoCAD, and Revit. Experience with ICC (IBC, IFC) model building codes, as well as NFPA standards including NFPA 13 and 72. Demonstrated experience in sprinkler design, technical knowledge, and management applications. Strong analytical and computer analysis skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
In-depth knowledge of building and fire codes, with practical experience. Experience with CFD and Egress modeling software, such as FDS, PyroSim, and Pathfinder. Experience in designing smoke control systems and conducting structural fire analysis.
