Job Title:
Quality Engineer Job Description The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving quality systems, ensuring product conformity, and enhancing customer satisfaction within a precision aerospace machining environment. This role involves cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, and Supply Chain departments to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards, with a strong emphasis on quality metrics, material specifications, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities Support and maintain compliance with
AS9100/ISO
9001 and applicable customer and regulatory requirements. Participate in internal, customer, and third-party audits; support corrective actions and follow-up. Review and approve quality documentation including inspection plans, FAI packages, and control plans. Develop, track, and analyze key quality metrics such as PPM, scrap, rework, on-time delivery impact, cost of quality, and supplier quality. Prepare and present quality performance reports to management. Use data analysis to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities. Interpret and apply aerospace material specifications including aluminum, steel, titanium, nickel alloys, heat treat, coatings, plating, and NDT. Review material certifications, test reports, and special process documentation for compliance. Ensure proper flow-down of material and process requirements to suppliers and internal operations. Lead or support investigation of nonconforming material using root cause analysis tools such as 5 Why and Fishbone. Drive corrective and preventive actions internally and with suppliers. Support MRB activities and disposition decisions. Assist with supplier evaluation, monitoring, and performance improvement. Support supplier corrective actions and audits as needed. Support lean and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, scrap, and rework. Collaborate with Manufacturing and Engineering to improve process capability and robustness. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience). 3+ years of quality engineering experience in an aerospace or precision machining environment. Strong experience working with quality metrics and performance data. Solid understanding of aerospace material specifications and certifications. Working knowledge of AS9100 and customer-specific aerospace requirements. Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with FAIs (AS9102) and special processes. Familiarity with ERP/MRP and quality management systems. Experience supporting customer and regulatory audits. Work Environment The work environment involves a blend of 50% hands-on activities and 50% desk work. The expected working hours are from 7 am to 3:45 pm, with a 45-minute lunch break. The role is set within a dynamic environment where adaptability is crucial, as priorities may shift rapidly. The dress code and specific facility conditions are not detailed. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $50.00/hr.
