Job Description

Project Engineer (Heavy Industrial / Capital Projects) Imerys | Sylacauga, AL | Monday - Friday (Onsite) About the Role Are you a hands-on Engineer who thrives on the plant floor rather than behind a spreadsheet? Imerys is seeking a Project Engineer to lead capital execution at our Sylacauga facility. You won't just be managing a budget; you will be the technical lead on $6MM in annual projects, overseeing everything from structural steel and foundation design to the installation of heavy milling, grinding, and conveyor systems. What You'll Do Lead "Big Iron"
Projects:
Own the full lifecycle of heavy equipment installations, including loading platforms, dust collection systems, and railroad extensions.
Drive Site Strategy:
Partner directly with the Engineering and Operations Managers to develop the annual capital budget and prioritize plant improvements. Bridge the
Gap:
Translate complex engineering designs into operational reality, ensuring every installation is built for safety, reliability, and ease of maintenance.
Troubleshoot & Optimize:
Act as the technical "first responder" for equipment failures and safety hazards, identifying root causes and engineering permanent solutions.
Vendor Management:
Prepare and manage contracts with outside vendors, ensuring high-quality execution on time and under budget.
What You Bring Education:
BS in Engineering (Mechanical or Structural preferred; Civil or Chemical considered).
Experience:
5+ years in a continuous processing or lean manufacturing environment (heavy industrial experience is a must).
Technical Chops:
Proficiency in AutoCAD and a deep understanding of structural/mechanical principles (steel design, foundations, and rotating equipment). The "Hands-On"
