Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) -

Frequent supplier travel required Overview We are seeking a hands‑on, proactive Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) with strong experience supporting PCBA, electromechanical, and enclosure suppliers in an aerospace environment. This role focuses on preventing defects, not just responding to them, by working closely with suppliers and internal engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to improve processes, clarify requirements, and strengthen overall product quality. The ideal candidate is comfortable rolling up their sleeves at supplier sites, identifying root causes firsthand, and driving meaningful improvements, even when corrective actions need to originate internally. This includes refining work instructions, acceptance criteria, test methods, and design‑for‑manufacture practices to ensure consistent, high‑quality deliveries that meet AS9100D requirements. Frequent travel is essential to build strong supplier relationships, provide real‑time feedback, and identify quality risks early Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary supplier‑facing Quality representative for PCBA, electromechanical enclosure, and cable/harness manufacturing Perform hands‑on inspection, troubleshooting, and functional verification of incoming PCBAs, assemblies, and ESS‑tested hardware Apply advanced electrical technician skills to diagnose failures, identify workmanship issues, and validate supplier repairs Conduct on‑site supplier audits, process reviews, root‑cause investigations, and corrective action follow‑up Evaluate supplier SMT, assembly, inspection, and test processes and recommend improvements to reduce defects and improve yield Ensure supplier compliance with IPC‑A‑610, IPC‑A‑620, IPC‑J‑STD‑001, and related workmanship standards Support supplier development and bring‑up activities, including first article inspections, prototype validation, and early ESS monitoring Partner with Engineering on manufacturability feedback, electrical troubleshooting, and component failure analysis Review supplier documentation packages including FAI reports, test results, inspection records, and AS9100D quality documentation Maintain supplier scorecards, metrics, and trend analysis; present findings and recommendations to leadership Drive continuous improvement through clearer instructions, stronger acceptance criteria, improved test coverage, and better fixtures or tooling Required Qualifications Experience supporting supplier quality for PCBA or electromechanical manufacturing Strong understanding of PCBA processes including SMT, soldering, rework, inspection, and in‑circuit or functional verification Experience with bring‑up testing, ESS screening, and functional hardware testing Proven ability to conduct supplier audits, NCRs, and structured root‑cause analysis (5‑Whys, Fishbone, etc.) Working knowledge ofISO 9001
2015 and AS9100D requirements and aerospace documentation practices Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, test procedures, and mechanical drawings Strong communication skills and confidence engaging directly with supplier engineering and operations teams Willingness and ability to travel frequently to supplier sites Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Melbourne, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $57.69/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
