Supplier Quality Engineer The Supplier Quality Engineer supports the development and maintenance of a robust supply base for an electro-mechanical medical device manufacturer. This role focuses on part qualification, supplier performance, and resolution of supplier-related quality issues, with a strong emphasis on PPAP, change management, and collaboration with both suppliers and customers in a regulated environment. Responsibilities Lead and support part qualification activities by working closely with suppliers on PPAP submissions and thoroughly reviewing PPAP documentation to ensure compliance with requirements (approximately 30% of the role). Collaborate directly with customers to manage change-related deliverables, including PPAP updates and documentation, ensuring clear communication and alignment on quality expectations (approximately 15% of the role). Provide production support by investigating nonconforming material (NCM) and supplier-related issues, performing system-related quality tasks, and driving timely resolution to minimize impact on manufacturing (approximately 35% of the role). Manage a portfolio of approximately 40-60 suppliers, overseeing Supplier Corrective Actions (SCARs), monitoring change management activities, and ensuring suppliers meet quality and regulatory requirements (approximately 20% of the role). Conduct investigations into supplier complaints and quality issues, identify root causes, and support the implementation and verification of effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Use quality inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to support part qualification, investigations, and verification of supplier quality. Interface regularly with suppliers and internal stakeholders to communicate quality expectations, provide feedback on performance, and drive continuous improvement in supplier processes. Support auditing and assessment of suppliers as needed to ensure adherence to applicable standards, internal procedures, and regulatory requirements. Contribute to maintaining accurate quality records, including PPAP documentation, SCARs, NCM reports, and change management files in the relevant quality systems. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering. 0-2 years of related experience in quality engineering or supplier quality. Experience or strong interest in working within a regulated industry such as aerospace, automotive, or medical device. Understanding of electronics manufacturing, particularly printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA), is a plus. Knowledge of PPAP processes, including review of supplier PPAPs and coordination of PPAP-related deliverables for customers. Ability to manage and support a large supplier base, typically 40-60 suppliers. Experience with Supplier Corrective Actions (SCARs) and investigation of supplier-related complaints and nonconforming material (NCM). Familiarity with change management processes related to supplier parts and documentation. Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Proficiency in using quality inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and preferably CMM equipment. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with customers and suppliers. Ability to support CAPA activities related to supplier quality issues. Experience or exposure to medical device or electronics environments is highly desirable. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in the electronics industry, particularly with PCBA manufacturing, is a strong plus. IPC-610 Certification is desired. Experience in medical device, aerospace, or automotive industries. Exposure to supplier auditing and supplier quality management processes. Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for investigating and resolving supplier-related quality issues. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wheeling, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $38.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
