Job Description

Works under the supervision of the Director of Signature Events, oversees all aspects of the provision of media equipment and technical services to campus events ranging from self-service equipment checkout to full operation of lighting, sound, and video production for large events that have a large internal or external audience and high profile. Supervises and trains a team of student workers to perform as many functions as possible to extend the team's capacity and support the many events scheduled on campus. Is able to work with customers to identify scope and requirements, procure necessary equipment or contract support, and prioritize demands based on existing resources, skillset, and budget. Able to follow through on requests and provide a high level of customer service. Able to read and evaluate an artist's Technical Rider for live events. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ensure that audiovisual needs are met for all designated signature events, either in-house or with external resources, including all related needs such as planning meetings, set up/tear down, sound checks, etc. Manage the Event Media Support student team's work schedule and assignments Work with producers of large events, such as Convocations and Commencement, to define and arrange required technical services from in-house and/or external resources Recommend audio-visual technology options for event venues Manage audio-visual equipment inventory of portable systems and event venue installed systems including routine maintenance, testing, repairs, upgrades, check-out and check-in processes Supervise and train event media support student workers Cover frequent evening and weekend event support assignments Maintain current knowledge of equipment and best practices for event media support, including videography, audio engineering, lighting, and pre/post-production media resource preparation Organize and perform preventive maintenance of event equipment to ensure proper function and availability of said equipment. In support of Berea College's great commitments this position requires student supervision. The Supervision would include scheduling, assigning and approving work performed. Developing students about common workplace acumen and giving them tangible work experience is an expected outcome. Education required to ensure success in this position: Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience required to ensure success in this position: threat least three years of experience in live event and media production is required. Special skills, knowledge and abilities: Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage student workers in fast-paced, team-oriented live event support environment Strong technical knowledge of lighting, video, audio, and media equipment for both presentation and production Demonstrated experience with AV equipment, such as Crestron or Extron, lighting, sounds Ability to diagnose and repair audio-visual equipment configurations, and software/hardware problems related to the production and presentation of digital content Exceptional customer service skills Strong communication skills License, certification, or registration necessary: Valid Driver's License Physical requirements: Some lifting is required, up to 50lbs Could involve long periods of sitting or standing. Could also require the ability to push equipment or carts around campus. Extended hours of physical event preparation needed for larger productions. Must be able to navigate campus and campus buildings independently Environmental conditions: Generally works in a standard office environment, but is often required to work in other campus buildings, facilities or even off-campus locations Professional office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors and callers.
