Share this job Packaging Engineer Burton, MI Apply for this job Position Summary The Packaging Engineer supports daily plant operations by troubleshooting packaging issues, resolving floor-level problems, and driving corrective actions to maintain material flow while minimizing operational disruptions. This role is responsible for leading packaging optimization and cost-reduction initiatives, supporting new product launches and engineering changes, and ensuring packaging solutions meet operational and company standards. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in packaging design, validation, and continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment, along with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to resolve complex operational and packaging challenges. Key Responsibilities Support daily plant operations by troubleshooting packaging-related issues on the manufacturing floor Drive corrective actions to maintain material flow and minimize operational disruptions Lead packaging optimization and cost-reduction initiatives Review, develop, and improve bulk and expendable packaging solutions Support new launches and engineering changes through packaging validation and implementation activities Ensure packaging designs comply with company standards and operational requirements Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams Contribute to continuous improvement efforts through data-driven problem solving and standardization Perform projects focused on reducing packaging material, processing, distribution, and damage costs Resolve complex product and packaging issues through analysis, testing, and implementation Coordinate packaging requirements with plants, suppliers, internal departments, and customers Stay current on new packaging technologies and industry developments Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to improve processes and teamwork Create and maintain packaging specifications, technical documentation, blueprints, and drawings as needed Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Engineering or related technical field 5-7 years of packaging engineering experience in a manufacturing environment Strong knowledge of packaging design, testing, and packaging processes Experience supporting plant operations and resolving floor-level packaging issues Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment Preferred Qualifications Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies Experience developing packaging specifications and technical documentation Familiarity with engineering drawings and blueprint interpretation Experience supporting automotive manufacturing operations and product launches Knowledge of email and collaboration tools such as Lotus Notes or similar systems EOE (including Disability/Veterans) #HRUProfessional Apply for this job
