Day:
Insight Global is looking for an Industrial Engineer located in Highland Park, MI. They will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and improving all material flow systems within a high-volume Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment. This role focuses on creating efficient, safe, and cost-effective methods for delivering raw materials, WIP, and finished goods to support continuous production. The engineer will collaborate with Production, Logistics, Supply Chain, Quality, and Maintenance teams to ensure material handling processes support operational excellence, lean manufacturing, and customer delivery metrics.
Key Responsibilities Material Flow Optimization:
Analyze current-state material movement from receiving through shipping to identify bottlenecks and eliminate waste using lean tools such as value-stream mapping, spaghetti diagrams, time studies, and line balancing.
Material Handling Systems:
Design, select, and implement efficient material handling methods and equipment, including AGVs/AMRs, tugger routes, forklifts, flow racks, point-of-use storage, and ergonomic dunnage/packaging solutions.
Process & Layout Improvements:
Support plant layout changes, new product launches, and workstation redesigns by defining optimal material presentation, replenishment strategies, and supermarket structures.
Continuous Improvement:
Lead or participate in kaizen events focused on improving internal logistics, material flow, ergonomics, and delivery accuracy. Drive standard work development and visual management improvements.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work cross-functionally with Production, Logistics, Supply Chain, Quality, and Maintenance teams to resolve material flow issues, implement system changes, and ensure smooth operational execution.
Safety & Compliance:
Conduct risk assessments and ensure all material movement processes comply with safety, ergonomic, and regulatory standards. Support improvement initiatives that reduce handling risks and improve workplace safety.
Compensation:
$100k -110k salary Benefit packages for this role may include healthcare insurance offerings and paid leave as provided by applicable law. Skills and Requirements Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field. 3-5 years of experience in Tier 1 automotive or high-volume manufacturing. Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, material flow, and internal logistics systems. Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar). Ability to conduct data analysis using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.
Preferred:
Experience with PFEP development and maintenance. Knowledge of AMRs/AGVs, tugger systems, and automated material delivery technologies. Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or related methodologies. Understanding of ERP/MRP systems (QAD).
