Job Description
Position Summary The Packaging Engineer is responsible for developing and improving packaging solutions for new and existing products. This role collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and suppliers to ensure packaging meets product protection, cost, ergonomic, and distribution requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Collaborate with engineering teams to develop packaging for new product releases, including participation in project meetings and pilot builds. Work with manufacturing to improve existing packaging through cost reduction, warranty improvement, and ergonomic enhancements. Design and create drawings for packaging components using 3D CAD tools. Maintain packaging Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy through the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process. Assign and implement packaging specifications for newly released parts through the ECN process. Coordinate with packaging suppliers to source components, obtain quotes, and support packaging validation and testing. Determine appropriate packaging test methods based on product characteristics and distribution requirements. Conduct packaging testing and validation as required. Communicate packaging specifications, including box size and shipping information, to internal teams such as sales when needed. Serve as the primary contact for Packsize systems, including process improvements, spare parts ordering, routine maintenance coordination, and technical support communication. Maintain and improve Packsize ordering software in coordination with IT and manufacturing. Support logistics and shipping teams on packaging-related projects and process improvements. Develop custom packaging solutions to meet specific customer shipping requirements when necessary. Provide packaging design support to internal project teams as needed. Act as a technical contact for customer packaging inquiries or issues. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Minimum of two (2) years of experience in packaging engineering or a related packaging development role. Corrugate experience preferred. Associate's degree in Engineering, Packaging, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred . Experience with 3D CAD software required ; SolidWorks preferred . Experience in a manufacturing or metals production environment preferred. Qualifications Working knowledge of packaging concepts, materials, and processes within a manufacturing environment. Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills. Self-motivated with the ability to manage projects and work cross-functionally. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and customers. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, procedures, and documentation. Solid analytical and mathematical skills for measurements, calculations, and data interpretation.
