Job Title:
Supplier Quality Engineer Job Description The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for preparing and issuing quality inspection documentation, collecting evidence of compliance from suppliers, and ensuring that all supplier deliverables meet defined quality standards. This role focuses on building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, understanding their processes, and providing guidance and training to help them consistently meet quality and contract requirements. The Supplier Quality Engineer frequently travels to supplier locations, both nationally and internationally, to conduct quality inspections and to verify that all inspection findings are closed before products ship from the factory. Responsibilities Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers to ensure they understand and conform to established quality standards. Visit various supplier facilities and closely monitor all phases of product manufacturing to ensure adherence to quality requirements throughout the process. Communicate quality concerns to suppliers and coordinate corrective action activities as needed to resolve issues. Review raw materials lists for product builds to confirm compliance with internal and customer quality specifications, as well as specific contract requirements. Assist with writing and completing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) during order execution and prior to product shipment from supplier factories to satisfy On Time Quality and On Time Delivery requirements. Follow the company's Quality Management System (QMS) FAT requirements for properly recording and storing suppliers' manufacturing quality records and documentation, including all relevant communication. Ensure Deviation Requests and Non-Conforming Product Reports are accurately processed and documented in the appropriate systems. Partner with the Supply Chain team to support the performance evaluation of suppliers. Assist with the development and delivery of best practice training for suppliers to drive ongoing conformance to internal processes and purchase order requirements. Continually seek opportunities for improvement related to cost-effective ways to produce quality products and ensure on-time delivery. Document lessons learned during each project and report them to the Quality team to support organizational learning and process improvement. Actively participate in a continuous improvement culture by providing recommendations and implementing enhancements to current methods and procedures. Lead or participate in 8D root cause analysis and corrective action projects as needs arise. Conduct internal and supplier quality audits as required. Perform other related duties as assigned to support quality and supplier performance objectives. Essential Skills Experience in supplier quality engineering, including working directly with suppliers on quality compliance and improvement. Hands-on experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), including preparation, execution, and documentation. Ability to manage and process non-conformances, Deviation Requests, and Non-Conforming Product Reports accurately. Knowledge of ISO 9001 and practical experience working within a formal Quality Management System. Familiarity with quality reviews, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and machining processes. Knowledge of materials, primarily steel, and related processes such as welding, heat treatment, and metal coatings. Experience with supplier audits and the evaluation of supplier performance. Understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical assembly processes. Ability to lead or participate in 8D root cause analysis and corrective action activities. Strong documentation skills for recording quality data, inspection results, and lessons learned. Willingness and ability to travel up to 70% nationally and internationally, as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field highly preferred. Associate degree required or 3-5 years of experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer in lieu of a bachelor's degree. 2+ years of related work experience in product inspection or manufacturing processes preferred. Experience working with structured, process-based Quality Management Systems. Ability to collaborate effectively with Supply Chain, Quality, and supplier teams. Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on cost savings, quality enhancement, and on-time delivery. Strong communication skills to clearly convey quality requirements, concerns, and best practices to suppliers. Interest in working on complex, technically challenging projects with opportunities to grow skills. Work Environment This role supports the design and delivery of jet engine testing facilities built around the world. Engineering activities are based in Minnesota, while all manufacturing is outsourced to suppliers, making this a supplier-facing and travel-intensive position. The Supplier Quality Engineer spends a significant portion of time at supplier sites, both domestically and internationally, conducting inspections, audits, and Factory Acceptance Tests in manufacturing and factory environments. The work involves close collaboration with another Supplier Quality Engineer and cross-functional teams, using formal quality systems and documentation tools to manage inspections, non-conformances, and continuous improvement initiatives. The position offers exposure to interesting project work and provides room to grow technical and professional skills in a dynamic, project-driven environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Brighton, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr.
