Job Title:
Supplier Quality Engineer Job Description Perform Quality System, Process, and Product audits on suppliers to ensure high-quality incoming materials and components for metal fabrication and assembly operations. Collaborate with suppliers to drive continuous improvement, implement robust process controls, and develop quality assurance plans that support a commitment to customers. Responsibilities Drive supplier quality performance for new product development, ongoing production, and continuous quality improvement of components used in material handling carts, corrals, fixtures, and custom solutions. Conduct regular on-site and virtual supplier quality audits to verify compliance with standards, ISO 9001, customer requirements, and applicable regulations. Travel to China and Vietnam 1-2 times per year to work directly with overseas suppliers. Maintain open, proactive communication with suppliers to resolve issues promptly, address concerns, and foster collaborative relationships focused on mutual improvement. Interpret and apply manufacturing audits and standards (ISO 9001 and others relevant to metal fabrication and assembly). Initiate, develop, and present supplier improvement plans; train internal teams and suppliers as needed on quality processes. Maintain and update a supplier database with performance metrics, evaluation scores, quality audit results, and other key data accessible to manufacturing, engineering, and management teams. Serve as liaison between suppliers, cross-functional internal teams (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Logistics), and review/approve supplier PPAP submissions for new or changed parts before release to production. Prepare and present Operations review reports on Supplier and Internal Quality KPIs (e.g., PPM, on-time delivery, supplier 8D response timeliness, corrective actions); develop countermeasures and annual action plans. Support logistics and receiving teams by communicating with suppliers on packaging, labeling, or delivery issues impacting dock receipt and material flow. Perform other duties as assigned to support quality and operational goals. Essential Skills Proficiency in supplier quality, quality engineering, and manufacturing quality engineering. SolidWorks or equivalent CAD system experience is preferred. Degree in Manufacturing / Industrial Engineering or equivalent. 3+ years of experience within a metal forming, fabrication, welding, or related manufacturing environment. Proven experience managing multiple projects and cross-functional teams to improve business processes and performance metrics. Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis, reporting, and presentations. Exhibits professionalism in communication (verbal, written, and behavioral) and builds strong supplier relationships. Takes ownership of projects, manages tasks effectively, and delivers results in a deadline-driven setting. Ability to work flexible/variable hours and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, collaborative environment. Strong understanding of quality tools and standards (e.g., PPAP, 8D, root cause analysis). Additional Skills & Qualifications Basic experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD system preferred. Proficiency in Mandarin is a plus. Work Environment The candidate will operate a computer extensively for data analysis, reporting, and communication. The position involves performing detailed visual inspections of parts, processes, and documentation. The candidate must tolerate exposure to varying temperatures in manufacturing/warehouse environments during supplier audits or plant floor support. Travel occasionally to supplier locations is required Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Saint Charles, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $73000.00 - $80000.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
