Job Description

Production Engineer Job Description The Production Engineer will work in a highly collaborative environment to support the preparation, launch, and optimization of new battery production lines at a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. This role focuses on equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, and production trials, while ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency targets are consistently achieved. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to large-scale capital projects, participate in clean room battery manufacturing, and work closely with cross-functional teams across domestic and international locations. Responsibilities Collaborate with engineers, construction management teams, technicians, vendors, general contractors, and other stakeholders to achieve project milestones for battery production lines. Lead and support equipment procurement activities, including specification review, vendor coordination, and capital expenditure planning. Plan and oversee equipment installation from preparation through execution, ensuring alignment with project schedules, safety standards, and quality requirements. Coordinate and support commissioning activities for new equipment and production lines, ensuring successful handover into pre-production and mass production phases. Conduct and support pre-production trials and battery manufacturing trials to confirm equipment safety, product quality, operational availability, and overall production efficiency. Participate in and adhere to advanced cleanliness and clean room protocols required for battery manufacturing operations. Identify punch list items during installation and commissioning, perform root cause analysis, and develop and implement effective countermeasures. Prepare clear summaries of issues, countermeasures, and trial results to support decision-making and smooth mass-production handover. Provide ongoing production support for equipment and process issues, working closely with manufacturing and maintenance teams to resolve problems quickly. Engage with cross-functional teams, both domestically and internationally, to discuss open items, align on key project schedules, and track progress against milestones. Create, manage, and maintain detailed project schedules for assigned areas, including milestone tracking and coordination of installation and commissioning activities. Maintain and monitor budgets for assigned areas, ensuring capital project expenditures remain within approved limits. Support continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing processes, equipment performance, and production efficiency. Interpret and work from 2D and 3D drawings for building facilities and process equipment to guide installation and troubleshooting activities. Use project management methodologies to plan, execute, and monitor capital projects from initial strategy through the start of mass production. Complete required internal and external training to stay current on company standards, safety practices, and technical requirements. Communicate status updates, risks, and mitigation plans clearly to project stakeholders and leadership. Travel as needed, up to approximately 10%, for business purposes such as vendor visits, meetings, and coordination with other facilities. Work occasional weekends, holidays, and facility shutdown periods as needed to meet critical project timelines and production schedules. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or a similar technical field. 3-10 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or production engineering. Experience in production preparation and execution of capital projects, preferably from initial strategy planning through the start of mass production. Project management experience involving capital investments greater than $0.5M. Experience creating and maintaining detailed schedules for manufacturing equipment installation, including milestone tracking. Ability to read and interpret 2D drawings, including building facilities and process equipment drawings. Experience with drafting, reading, and interpreting 2D and 3D drawings and related software. Proficiency with 2D and 3D drafting software, such as AutoCAD. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Mechanical engineering and mechanical design skills relevant to manufacturing equipment and processes. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and manufacturing engineering principles. Experience with continuous improvement and engineering problem-solving methods. Ability to travel for business, both domestically and internationally, up to approximately 10%. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and scheduled shutdown periods as required by project conditions and timelines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in managing or supporting capital projects (CAPEX) within a manufacturing environment. Experience working on large-scale battery or automotive-related manufacturing projects. Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies for tracking progress, risks, and budgets. Strong analytical skills and experience performing root cause analysis and implementing effective countermeasures. Effective communication skills for working with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams, including international partners. Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail and schedule adherence. Strong commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to clean room and cleanliness protocols. Interest in long-term, stable project work with opportunities for professional growth and learning. Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Work Environment This role is fully onsite at a new battery manufacturing plant in Liberty, working primarily in a production and engineering environment that includes clean room areas and advanced battery manufacturing equipment. The position involves close collaboration with engineers, construction management, technicians, vendors, and general contractors in a fast-paced, project-driven setting. Work hours generally follow standard full-time schedules, with the expectation of flexibility to support critical project phases, including occasional weekends, holidays, and plant shutdown periods in July and December. The facility operates with advanced cleanliness and safety protocols, especially in designated clean room areas. The organization emphasizes long-term, stable projects with multi-year planning horizons, providing consultants with consistent work and opportunities to grow their skills over time. Travel requirements are moderate, with up to approximately 10% domestic and international travel for meetings, coordination, and vendor engagement. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Liberty, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $80.00/hr.
