Job Description

Job Title:
Process Engineer Job Description The Process Engineer evaluates and improves the performance of manufacturing lines with a focus on people, processes, and operations rather than capital investments. This role analyzes machine performance, production data, and key metrics to increase capacity, reduce downtime, and drive continuous improvement within a high-growth packaging environment. The Process Engineer serves as a hands-on resource on the production floor, partnering closely with operations, quality, and maintenance teams to change the way people think and work in the production environment. Responsibilities Evaluate machine and line performance against standards, including downtime, uptime, changeovers, and shift transitions, with the primary goal of increasing manufacturing capacity. Analyze production-related KPIs and use data-driven insights to identify issues, prioritize opportunities, and implement corrective and preventive actions. Focus on process and operational improvements rather than capital investments, driving changes in how people work and think on the production floor. Partner closely with production floor teams to understand day-to-day challenges and develop practical solutions that improve safety, quality, throughput, and efficiency. Collaborate with quality and maintenance subject matter experts to address recurring issues, optimize processes, and improve equipment reliability. Support or lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies. Develop, refine, and support implementation of work instructions and standardized processes to ensure consistent and reliable production. Use statistical tools and methods, such as capability (CPK) and standard deviation analysis, to assess process performance and drive improvements. Contribute engineering expertise in manufacturing and packaging processes to enhance line performance and product quality. Act as an on-the-floor resource who coaches and supports operators and other team members in understanding and using production data and KPIs. Participate in cross-functional meetings and projects to align process improvements with broader operational and business goals. Essential Skills 5+ years of experience within the packaging industry. Proven experience in process engineering within a manufacturing or packaging environment. Strong understanding of production-related KPIs and the ability to drive actions based on these metrics. Knowledge of Green Belt-level Six Sigma concepts and/or
ISO 9001
principles. Hands-on experience with process improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies. Solid understanding of manufacturing engineering and manufacturing processes. Ability to create, interpret, and improve work instructions for production environments. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret production data and translate it into actionable improvements. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in packaging engineering within a high-volume manufacturing setting. Familiarity with Minitab or similar statistical analysis software, including CPK and standard deviation analysis. Exposure to or training in Six Sigma methodologies (Green Belt level or equivalent understanding). Experience working in lean manufacturing environments focused on continuous improvement. Background in engineering disciplines relevant to manufacturing and process optimization. Comfort working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional setting with on-the-job subject matter experts. Work Environment This role is highly hands-on, with approximately 75% of the time spent on the production floor and 25% at a desk performing analysis and documentation. The environment centers on active manufacturing lines in the packaging industry, where all key information and answers are gathered directly from the floor. The Process Engineer works closely with quality and maintenance teams, who serve as on-the-job subject matter experts, in a culture that values innovation, continuous improvement, and setting trends within the industry rather than settling for the status quo. The business operates in a sector that has experienced continuous growth, driven by expanding eCommerce, and focuses on patented, differentiated products. The overall atmosphere supports collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and a strong connection between engineering and day-to-day operations.
