Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a high-caliber Senior Technical Buyer to manage our complex commercial and sub-contract requirements. This person will also assist in our Aftermarket Department Buyer Role. This role is designed for a veteran of the industry who not only possesses deep technical and negotiation skills but also has the desire to mentor and grow new and existing team members. This candidate will be responsible for ensuring our supply chain is technically sound while actively elevating the capabilities of the purchasing department.MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY/COMPETENCIES
Technical Sourcing & Negotiation Drawing Interpretation:
Analyze engineering blueprints to determine manufacturing requirements and ensure vendors are selected based on specific technical capabilities.Aggressive Negotiation:
Secure favorable pricing and lead times through proactive, data-backed negotiation tactics while also maintaining strong vendor relationships.Sub-Contract Management:
Oversight of outbound processes (fabrication, machining, heat treat, plating, etc.), including creating shippers and tracking vendor WIP. Design for Manufacturability (DFM)Feedback:
Serve as the Voice of the Vendor to our internal engineering team, calling out and challenging tolerances, finishes, etc. as well as materials standardization. Partner withSupplier Quality Engineer:
Work alongside the rest of the Procurement Team and Supplier Quality Engineer to find, vet, and onboard new vendors as well as deliver corrective action to vendors that are not performing to the company standard. This can include vendor site visits.Process & Financial Integrity Unmatched Receivings Oversight:
Lead the effort in clearing unmatched receivings and resolving 3-way match discrepancies (PO/Receiver/Invoice) along with the rest of the Procurement Team.NCR Ownership:
Follow up and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) that relate to Vendor Errors and send out for replacement/repair when dispositioned by Quality Team.Work Instructions:
Strictly adhere to and help refine company work instructions and quality standards. Quote toPO Lifecycle:
Manage the end-to-end purchase order process, from initial generation to final delivery follow-up. Training & Mentorship (The "Coach" Aspect)Skills Transfer:
Actively train junior/mid-level buyers on how to read engineering drawings, identify vendor red flags, negotiate pricing and Special Pricing Agreements (SPAs), and negotiate lead time.Tactical Coaching:
Share proven negotiation strategies and "proactive follow-up" habits with the team to improve overall department performance.Process Leadership:
Standardize best practices for clearing unmatched receivings and managing vendor relationships, ensuring the team operates with the same rigor you've developed over your career.Manufacturing Routing Assistance:
Assist other Procurement Team members and Production Control Identify the proper routings and manufacturing processes for legacy drawings and parts. Core Values Must live by and exhibit TWT's core values of Acting with Integrity, Being the Solution, and Crossing Boundaries.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Engineering Drawing Interpretation:
Proven ability to review an engineering part drawing and understand what it takes to manufacture that part based on the tolerances, finishes, etc. 10+Years of Experience:
Must have a deep background in an OEM facility or complex machining/manufacturing environment.Proven Mentorship:
Experience in or a strong aptitude for teaching and developing others.ERP Proficiency:
Expert-level understanding of how to navigate and clean up data within an ERP system.Technical Communication:
Ability to bridge the gap between Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Finance, and External Vendors.PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Engineering Background:
Mechanical Engineering Degree or professional equivalent while serving in a Procurement role.EQUIPMENT USED
