Job Description
Project Engineer Job Description The Project Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting and optimizing a highly automated pharmaceutical warehouse environment. This position emphasizes LEAN process improvement, staffing model analysis, and change documentation governance. Collaborating cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, IT, and Supply Chain, the Project Engineer will identify inefficiencies, eliminate redundancies, and ensure all operational and documentation changes comply with GMP and GDP standards. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in automated material handling systems, LEAN methodologies, and workforce/staffing model analysis, with the ability to convert data and observations into measurable operational improvements. Responsibilities Optimize processes using LEAN methodologies such as value stream mapping and waste analysis to improve automated warehouse operations. Evaluate end-to-end material flow across automated systems like ASRS, conveyors, and AGVs/AMRs. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance throughput, utilization, and operational reliability. Support kaizen events and problem-solving efforts focused on warehouse performance. Assess current staffing models and identify gaps, overlaps, or redundancies in roles and responsibilities. Collaborate with operations and engineering leadership to recommend optimized staffing strategies. Support future state staffing models for various operational phases. Document and coordinate operational and engineering changes impacting warehouse systems. Maintain records of system updates, process changes, and staffing adjustments in compliance with GMP/GDP. Serve as a liaison between Engineering, Operations, Quality, IT, and external vendors. Support project activities related to warehouse system modifications or expansions. Participate in risk assessments, readiness reviews, and post-implementation evaluations. Communicate findings and progress to stakeholders through clear documentation and reporting. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Systems, Manufacturing, or related discipline). Experience supporting automated warehouse or material handling systems in a regulated manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of LEAN methodologies and continuous improvement tools. Experience analyzing and optimizing staffing or workforce models. Familiarity with GMP/GDP documentation, change control, and quality systems. Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device manufacturing. Exposure to ASRS, AGVs/AMRs, conveyors, and WMS/MES integrations. LEAN Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher). Experience supporting commissioning, go-live, or post-implementation optimization phases. Comfort working in fast-paced, highly automated environments with evolving operational demands. Work Environment The role is based on-site in Clayton with some remote flexibility, though this is being scaled back. The position operates during normal business hours. The work environment is fast-paced and highly automated, requiring adaptability to evolving operational demands. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Clayton, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $49.00 - $49.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
