Key Requirements and Responsibilities:
Knowledge of Codes and Standards:
NFPA Codes:
Deep understanding of NFPA 85 (Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code), NFPA 86 (Standard for Ovens and Furnaces), and
NFPA 87 . IEC
Standards:
Familiarity with
IEC 61511
(
Functional Safety:
Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Industry Sector).
Other Standards:
Knowledge of relevant standards like
ISA TR84.00.05
(for safety instrumented functions) and
API RP 556
(for fired heaters and steam generators).
Functional Safety:
Understanding the concept of functional safety.
Risk Assessment and Reduction:
Ability to identify combustion hazards, assess risks, and determine necessary risk reduction measures using safety instrumented functions (SIF). BMS Design and Implementation is a plus
Hardware Selection:
Specifying appropriate controllers, fuel trains, industrial burners, and flame arrestors.
Software Design:
Developing and implementing logic.
Cause and Effect Diagrams:
Creating clear cause and effect diagrams to define system behavior during different operating states.
Testing and Maintenance:
Commissioning and Testing:
Developing and executing test plans to verify system functionality and safety.
Preventative Maintenance:
Implementing regular maintenance schedules to ensure long-term system reliability.
Troubleshooting:
Identifying and resolving issues related to hardware and software.
Communication and Documentation:
Documentation:
Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation for all aspects of the process, including design specifications, test procedures, and maintenance records.
Communication:
Effectively communicating with other engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel regarding process design, operation, and maintenance.
Training:
Providing training to relevant personnel on the proper operation and maintenance.
Management of Change:
Understanding the process for managing changes to the system, including documentation and training.
Site Surveys:
