Job Title:
Mechanical Technician Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Technician to join our team, focusing on field and test operations. This role requires flexibility to travel up to 80% of the time throughout Northern Nevada. You will be involved in a phase of testing emergency communications, working in pairs to test, drive, navigate, and monitor test equipment in various remote and urban locations. This position offers the opportunity to operate 4x4 company vehicles and use advanced test equipment to gather and upload data daily. Responsibilities Travel extensively throughout Northern Nevada, working up to 10-12 hours a day, five days a week. Conduct testing of emergency communication systems across different areas, securing local lodging as needed. Operate 4x4 company vehicles in remote and urban settings, ensuring safe and efficient navigation according to software-driven maps and grids. Configure, use, observe, and collect data with provided test equipment, uploading this data daily. Collaborate with a partner to rotate roles in driving, navigating, and test monitoring. Drive specialty Jeep Trucks equipped with 16 radios connected to test devices and laptops. Support operational field testing of new radio systems, primarily for law enforcement applications. Essential Skills Experience with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. Field service experience, ideally with P25 radio systems or other two-way radio systems. Basic electronics knowledge, including understanding of voltage, amps, and ohms. Basic to advanced computer skills and experience operating electronic test equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications RF radio experience, system, or portable/mobile servicing. Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) knowledge. Military in radio or satellite communications. Experience operating 4x4 vehicles and maintaining a clean driving record. Land mobile radio electrical mechanical experience. LMR experience with P25 for E911 systems and land mobile radios. Work Environment The role involves constant travel and fieldwork, with half the time spent gathering and testing data and the other half driving with a partner. You will receive per diem when traveling over 50 miles from home, including $80 for meals and $110 for lodging per day. Dress appropriately for both on-road and off-road conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Reno, NV. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
