Kinetic Custom Trailers is seeking a skilled, collaborative, and detail-oriented individual to join our dynamic team in Waco, TX. Who You Are You are a hands-on mechanical design professional who thrives in collaborative manufacturing environments and enjoys solving complex structural and fabrication challenges. You understand how good designs perform not only in CAD, but also on the shop floor and in the field. Whether your background comes through Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering, you bring practical judgment, manufacturing literacy, and pride in creating clean, efficient, and reliable designs. Key Responsibilities Design and validate trailer structures and mechanical systems including: Frames and subframes Suspension systems Coupling and hitch assemblies Hydraulic and pneumatic systems Brake systems and related components Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, fabrication drawings, and bills of material (BOMs) using SolidWorks. Perform weight distribution, axle loading, and structural calculations to ensure compliance with:
FMVSS DOT
requirements Applicable industry and transportation regulations Conduct targeted Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on critical structural members, weldments, and assemblies.
Produce fabrication-ready drawing packages including:
Weld symbols GD&T callouts Assembly details Manufacturing documentation consistent with
AWS D1.1
standards Collaborate with Sales and leadership teams to: Benchmark competitor products Review customer requirements Develop new trailer configurations and product variants Evaluate cost, weight, and manufacturability trade-offs Support Production and Manufacturing teams during fabrication and assembly by: Providing design clarification Troubleshooting production issues Issuing revisions and engineering change notices (ECNs) Driving Design for Manufacturability (DFM) improvements Maintain organized engineering records, revision control, and compliance documentation. Communicate professionally and proactively with internal stakeholders, vendors, and customers. Required Qualifications Expertise in steel fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, machining, and welding. Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Strong understanding of design for manufacturability principles specific to steel fabrication. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented capabilities. Independent self-starter with effective time management and organizational skills Education and Experience Technologist Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. Minimum of 3 years in mechanical design, preferably within manufacturing or related industries. Proficiency in 3D CAD software, specifically SolidWorks. Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). What a Career at
