Summary:
The Mechanical Habitability Engineering Technician III will provide support to U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers stationed at Naval Station Norfolk.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Offer subject matter expertise to shipboard personnel, assisting the CEMAT mechanical habitability project team with engineering and technical support. Deliver over-the-shoulder and on-the-job (OJT) training to the ship's force Sailors as needed Guide materials, maintenance, and training for shipboard equipment and systems on CVN aircraft carriers and their crews. Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair mechanical systems using a variety of tools and instruments Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on mechanical systems Recommend support for fleet maintenance on U.S. Navy aircraft carrier shipboard habitability mechanical equipment, including reach-in refrigerators, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
Required Qualifications:
Eight (8) years' experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of naval or marine propulsion hull, mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems High school diploma or equivalent. Documented technical knowledge and expertise in Navy Shipboard systems and equipment U.S. Navy surface ships or aircraft carriers experience required. Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, diagrams, or other mechanical technical data pertaining to the construction and operation of naval hull, mechanical, and electrical equipment. Able to work aboard ships in a shipyard environment under industrial conditions. Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hats, hearing protection, and safety glasses Two (2) years' experience in a position of team leader or supervisor of subordinate work groups is desired An associate degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to two (2) years of technician experience Preferred Qualifications Prior Navy Experience in the shipboard engineering department supporting the auxiliaries division All personnel assigned must have the following qualifications, and they must be current or be able to obtain:
OSHA 7615
Shipyard Employment 10-hour training course within 30 days Obtain and maintain a secret clearance Respirator qualified to include a physical and a fit test

Frequent standing, sitting, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms Will be required to work aboard ships and in shipyard environments under industrial conditions. The candidate will be working as part of a small team.
