APEL Extrusions APEL Extrusions is an independent extruder, finisher and fabricator of aluminum extrusions serving the commercial, residential, and industrial markets of Western Canada and the Western United States. With facilities in Calgary, Canada, Coburg, Oregon, and Phoenix, APEL Extrusions is a fully integrated extruder with six extrusion presses, (2 in Calgary and 3 in Oregon and 1 in Phoenix) and a full array of finishing capabilities occupying over 600,000 square feet of modern manufacturing space employing over 300 people.
Job Summary:
APEL Extrusions has an immediate requirement for a qualified Manufacturing/Process Engineer in its Phoenix, AZ facility. Under the direction of the Maintenance and Engineering Manager this position will be responsible for providing engineering and process management support for the implementation of technical solutions in the extruding, painting, anodizing and fabrication of aluminum products. The incumbent will be involved in developing and implementing initiatives to improve company performance in the areas of operational capability, cost management, safety, productivity, and quality.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) ensuring that safety, quality, and productivity are monitored, corrected, and improved as required. Analyze production data, budgets, and schedules to meet performance metrics. Collaborate with departments to continuously improve processes through waste reduction and productivity improvement initiatives. Assist in developing APEL's technical and operating capabilities through the design and installation of manufacturing tools and machinery. Assist in preventive maintenance functions in establishing priorities and initiatives to ensure equipment availability and reliability. Provide daily support on the production floor to resolve equipment and process issues. Create documentation and standards maintaining standard operating procedures, flow charts, and time studies. Keep contacts and develop partnerships with leading suppliers in the industry to stay current with industry best practices. Act as a project manager on manufacturing engineering activities ensuring program plan, resources, budget, and schedule are met. Identify key process inputs for in control and capable and implement standardized systems. In general, the Manufacturing/Process Engineer will perform complicated engineering work, exercising independent judgment and action. Apply sound principles and techniques to design, optimize, and maintain production processes to maximize efficiency, quality, and safety while reducing costs. Track equipment downtime, occurrence frequency, and develop preventative/predictive programs to improve performance. Troubleshoot production issues, develop manufacturing systems, select equipment, and implement lean methodologies. Create documentation, train staff, and improve process workflows
Qualifications & Competencies:
The successful candidate will have the compassion for process management, continuous improvement, and delivering profitable results in a highly competitive manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering Skills in project planning. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Technical understanding of basic hydraulics, electrical and mechanical systems. Relentless focus on driving process stability. Ability to lead, to collaborate and to execute. A hands-on engineer with knowledge of automated systems. People oriented with an innate ability to establish a high degree of credibility. Analytical thinking, problem solving, and cross functional collaboration. Experienced and trained in Lean and Six Sigma concepts. Trained in various manufacturing concepts and technologies. Engineering experience in a manufacturing / plant environment preferred.
