Job Summary:
As a key player in Engineering/R D, you will support manufacturing to ensure production activities align with Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Efficiency standards. Your role will be crucial in maximizing production output and product quality through collaboration with manufacturing management personnel. Your responsibilities will include overseeing manufacturing, cost improvement/process improvement projects, R D project support, tooling/fixture design, machine design (semi-automation, full automation), and evaluating new equipment and processes.
Responsibilities:
Manage Manufacturing Engineering projects on the floor related to R D line trials. Provide DFMA guidance and develop cost-effective, high-volume manufacturing, assembly, and packaging methods. Optimize and transition production line layouts. Design and improve work-cells and fixtures as required. Conceive and implement cost reduction ideas and quality improvements. Conduct root cause analysis of process problems with a coordinated effort with operators, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Machine Shop personnel. Develop new manufacturing methods and procedures to optimize efficiency, maximize labor utilization, and reduce operating costs. Possess good working knowledge of mechanical control devices such as pushbuttons, limit switches, level switches, pneumatics, etc. Possess good working knowledge of electrical device controls such as PLCs, solenoids, sensors, motors, etc. Provide manufacturing production support and assist operators with process equipment setup on difficult parts. Collaborate with Manufacturing/Quality personnel to minimize Manufactured Material Discrepancy Reports (MMDR), customer complaints, and returned goods (RMA) for quality reasons. Maintain communication with the Sales Group and Production Control to meet customer requirements and ensure efficient use of production resources. Recommend new engineering and production equipment purchases to maintain manufacturing and engineering standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. Post safety posters and signs to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and prevent access to hazardous conditions. Work with facility maintenance/machine shop departments to ensure production equipment is maintained in good working order. Assist Manufacturing Management to ensure all functions/operations within manufacturing have a current written Job Safety Analysis. Provide engineering support for all environmental regulatory compliance requirements. Investigate and analyze quality problems to determine cause and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications:
BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering 7 years of hands-on job experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in manufacturing equipment design (mechanical & electrical) Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing processes Experience with DFMA, SPC, FMEA, and DOE CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred) Knowledge of working with PLCs and controls such as Sensors, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, and Vision systems and the ability to program (semi-automation, full automation). Experience in capital equipment selection and writing justifications. Ability to read and interpret documents (safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals). Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and skilled in Technical Report writing
Preferred:
Bilingual (Spanish/English) Knowledge of Profile Extrusion, Co-extrusion process Knowledge of rubber or plastic materials Understanding of KPPs (Key Performance Parameters), KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), and KPCs (Key Product Characteristics). Experience using Microsoft Project to manage project timelines. Demonstrated history of designing and implementing process improvement methodologies. Ability to independently define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to present information within a group of peers/managers, vendors, customers, etc. Basic knowledge of environmental regulations on air pollution, water pollution, and hazardous waste. Knowledge of ASTM test methods is a plus.
