Job Description

As a START Engineering Test Technician, you will enter Tesla's START program, an intensive 14 week training course that develops the technical skills needed to support Optimus production operations through inclass theory, hands-on labs, and industry certifications. Upon successful completion, you will transition into a full time Test Engineering Technician role responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automated test equipment, test harnesses, HMIs, and industrial networks to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations. This is a non-exempt position. No prior test equipment experience is required, the START program is designed to build these skills from the ground up. Successful graduates of the program will have the opportunity to accept full-time employment within 30 days of graduation. • Internals will be considered based on shop allocation. Must be an internal from a shop that has a designated allocation to be considered.
During START Training:
Assemble electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic equipment for production Execute technician tasks independently after initial instruction Electronics and Electrical labs and theory classes. As well as Perform Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance (repairs) on industrial production and mechatronics equipment based on schematic comprehension of: Electrical systems ranging from 24 VDC to 480 VAC 3 phase and Mechanical systems Attend and pass each training session with an 80% or higher GPA Upon Graduation as
Test Engineering Technician:
Diagnose and troubleshoot automated test systems, data acquisition hardware, sensors, and other automation components to quickly restore production Analyze CAN signals to document failure modes for engineering analysis Work with Engineers to fabricate, assemble, integrate, and repair mechanical assemblies, electrical systems, and wire harnesses Collaborate with Engineering teams to root cause and resolve mechanical and electrical issues, provide detailed written & verbal test status updates to key stakeholders such as investigations and shift pass-downs Maintain exceptional change control discipline in a rapidly evolving product and manufacturing environment Attend and pass each training session with an 80% or higher GPA Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. Must follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail Be able to work in a team-based environment and achieve goals with a "safety first" attitude Demonstrate basic computer skills, including navigating web browsers and using standard applications like Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal Benefits As a full-time Tesla Intern, you will be eligible for: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans.
