Most importantly, we put safety first in everything we do. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Manufacturing Systems Engineer for our Fullerton, California, location. This position reports directly to the Engineering Director and plays a key role in supporting and improving plant manufacturing operations. This is a hands-on engineering role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment that offers both challenge and opportunity. Job Summary The Manufacturing Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, optimization, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of manufacturing systems and processes within a flexible polyurethane foam manufacturing facility. This role supports automation systems, conveying systems, process equipment, tooling, fabrication, and industrial manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and manufacturing engineering knowledge combined with hands-on industrial experience involving automation, process systems, fabrication, CNC equipment, robotics, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position requires a practical, solutions-oriented engineer who can work closely with operations, maintenance, production, and leadership teams to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and product quality. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and optimize manufacturing systems utilizing CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, and AutoCAD to create detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and process layouts. Program, troubleshoot, and support programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics, CNC machinery, and vision inspection systems to ensure reliable and efficient automation integration. Design, maintain, and improve conveying systems, process piping, pumps, valves, flow controls, and chemical metering systems. Perform root cause analysis on production, process, and equipment-related issues, identifying corrective actions to improve operational performance and minimize downtime. Support process engineering initiatives through the implementation of lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement strategies, and operational best practices. Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), SOPs, work instructions, and CAM programming documentation. Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to improve manufacturing workflows, tooling designs, fabrication processes, and production efficiency. Lead and support manufacturing projects involving automation systems, fabrication, CNC programming, welding, process equipment, and industrial machinery maintenance. Manage capital improvement projects from concept through installation, commissioning, and startup. Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and preventive maintenance initiatives. Analyze production and process data to identify trends and implement continuous improvement solutions. Assist with vendor selection, equipment sourcing, contractor coordination, and project scheduling activities. Support plant utility systems , including compressed air, vacuum systems, water systems, steam systems, and process piping infrastructure. Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA standards, environmental regulations, and applicable manufacturing requirements. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering field. Advanced certifications in manufacturing, automation, process engineering, or continuous improvement are a plus. Minimum of 5 years of experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Proven experience working with automation systems, fabrication, tooling, industrial equipment, and production operations. Strong mechanical aptitude combined with proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, and AutoCAD. Hands-on experience with PLC programming, robotics, CNC machining, CAM programming, and vision inspection systems. Familiarity with industrial manufacturing equipment, including conveyors, pumps, welding systems, CNC machinery, process systems, and material handling equipment. Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills. Understanding of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies, and process optimization techniques. Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization. Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a hands-on approach to problem-solving. Preferred Qualifications Experience in polyurethane foam manufacturing or related chemical processing industries. Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell automation systems, VFDs, instrumentation, and process control systems. Experience with reliability engineering and preventive maintenance programs. Knowledge of OSHA regulations, industrial safety standards, and environmental compliance requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to work in a manufacturing plant environment. Ability to walk production areas and climb stairs or ladders as needed. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and move materials or equipment up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation Ability to work around industrial machinery, moving equipment, noise, heat, and chemical processing systems.
