Job Description

Company Overview Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service. Overview Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Manufacturing Engineering Intern to join our Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Engineering Team in San Carlos, CA. The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will support product introduction and ramp-up of Joby aircraft powertrain through implementation and improvement of manufacturing equipment and processes, and by working closely with cross-functional teams. This individual must be highly organized, self-driven, and passionate to solve technical problems using their mechanical & electrical fundamentals. This position is exciting and rewarding, as the Manufacturing Engineering Intern will promptly see their ideas influence many key areas due to the fast pace of Joby Aviation. Responsibilities Develop and refine manufacturing processes for power electronics and motor assemblies Support creation and updates of work instructions, tooling, and fixtures to meet quality and traceability requirements Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective actions for nonconformances and build issues Collaborate with technicians and engineers during hardware builds, test setups, and process validations Required Pursuing undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering; previous co-op, internship, or related work experience required Heading into junior or senior year of undergraduate degree or above Available Summer 2026 Excellent problem solving, communication, and teamwork skills while working with cross functional teams Strong analytical and practical understanding of mechanical design Ability to take a proactive hands-on approach to problem identification, prototyping, iterative design, validation testing, and troubleshooting
Desired Additional Information Relocation Assistance:
This position does not offer relocation assistance. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense. Additional Information Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is for undergraduate students ($22.00 - $31.00/hr), and for graduate students ($5,550 - $7,800/month). The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
