Quest Diagnostics Inc. in San Juan Capistrano, CA seeks Staff Manufacturing Engineer (multiple positions) to, as part of the Pharma Services Team, manage all activities associated with manufacturing engineering and shared services in support of all in-vitro diagnostics products manufactured at Quest. Provide oversight of engineering activities associated with equipment and process validations, improvement projects, packaging designs, technology transfers, and shared services. Lead product development activities in collaboration with Manufacturing and R D. Design manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, productivity, and quality. Ensure manufacturing processes follow IVDD/IVDR, FDA, and ISO requirements. Supervise team of 1-5 employees. Up to 25% domestic travel required to east coast facilities/offices.REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Engineering (any) or related technical field.Experience must include:
5 years of experience in Manufacturing or Engineering within in-vitro diagnostics (IVD), medical devices, or pharmaceutical industry; IVD manufacturing technologies (reagents/kitting) processes, and systems; ensuring compliance with FDA and ISO requirements for facility services; 3 years of experience in equipment controls and equipment selection and purchasing (bottling, liquid dispense, labeling, printing); and utilizing Lean or SixSigma principles and methodologies for improvement projects. Salary range $140,774- $210,000 / year.

Responsibilities:
- All duties included in the Problem Resolution Technician job description with the clear objective and focus of preventing reoccurring issues.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times. Will have access to overall employee and department performance. May have knowledge of disciplinary actions up to, and including termination. May have knowledge related to departmental performance that could be detrimental if released to the wrong environment
- Demonstrates a good understanding of job duties and SOP's related to Specimen Processing in a production setting
- Demonstrates and conveys an understanding of the compliance policies relating to test ordering, test reporting, add-on tests, TNP's, reflex tests, and custom panels
- Conducts all regularly scheduled departmental audits and others as requested
- Conducts audits comparing the requisition demographics and test information to the information that was entered into the laboratory information system during the data entry process
- Identifies and documents any defects in the data entry process, using department defect definitions as a guide
- Generates daily reports on quality to department supervisors
- Maintains and reports department quality data to include compliance audits and Best Practice Team reports
- Researches, responds, records, and submits additional errors regarding department quality to the department supervisor or manager as needed
- Provides appropriate feedback to supervisors and managers when problems arise
- Demonstrates ability to interpret specimen flow/tracking data utilizing all available reports and resources (e.g. specimen logs, work lists, management reports, laboratory information systems, front-end automation, testing instrumentation, etc.)
- Understanding of QC electronic issues; ability to collaborate with IT & Sales on interfaces & technical issues
- Manages projects as assigned that drive quality metrics
- Performs audit of EMR requisitions to include: Pulls reports indicating failed EMRs and logs tickets for frequent offenders and follows up to ensure successful transmission of orders; Identifies discrepancies within EMR requisitions, such as test code or other data, logs ticket and follows up to ensure the quality of received orders

Responsibilities:
- Prepares and organizes samples for testing, for example, sample racking, aliquoting and tube preparation.
- Responsible for labeling, handling, processing or preparation, and transportation and storage of specimens.
- Identifies sample problems and assists in resolving appropriately. Demonstrates problem solving ability on service and production issues.
- Prepares testing equipment and assists with preventive maintenance. Notifies appropriate technical staff of equipment problems.
- Assists licensed personnel (CA only) or delegated supervisor (non-CA) in the pre-analytic and post

- Prepares pre-analytical reagents and controls using automated or fixed volume measuring devices. Submits documentation to appropriate staff for approval to use.

- Maintains inventory of consumable items including reagents and supplies. Orders, unpacks, logs, dates and stores reagents/supplies upon receipt and properly rotates stock for use. Performs inventory of laboratory items including restocking the benches and equipment inventory.
- Sorting and accessioning incoming specimens into appropriate LIS, then delivering to designated testing platform/department.
- Performs data entry or transcribes data from previously recorded results to computer for data reduction and prepares for licensed personnel's review.
- Tallies workload data and prepares reports as requested.
- Assists in the performance of quality control procedures.
- Prepares protocols/logs or other appropriate documents.
