The Design Project Manager is competent to provide water, wastewater and stormwater pipeline and facility design services, is a specialist on complex technical matters, requires minimal supervision and to lead a team including junior engineers in completing design projects. This Design Project Manager will serve as a project manager overseeing jobs of moderate complexity, assisting with preparation of proposals, schedules and budgets, making day-to-day decisions within or for a group, mentoring less experienced engineers and having some authority for personnel actions. Duties Develop and manage project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule. Lead, assist or perform complex engineering design tasks on assigned water/wastewater related projects through collaboration with a wide range of technical disciplines.
Routine technical tasks include:
Engineering calculations Equipment sizing and selection Engineering drawings Engineering reports Feasibility studies Presentations to clients, regulatory agencies and/or project stakeholders Quality reviews Manage or assist with the management of the design of and construction phase services for projects of varying complexities. Develop goals and objectives for unique and complex projects. Responsible for managing projects to achieve budget, schedule, and contractual obligations (KPIs, etc.). Conduct and/or coordinate quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects and facilitate independent technical review projects by others. Involved in the regulatory review and approval permitting process of projects, which may require meeting with clients, contractors, interested stakeholder parties, and reviewing agency personnel. Client-facing experience is required to lead and facilitate discussions. Managing team of designers, subcontractors, and clients. Working within a team or independently, competently performs engineering design and construction phase duties. Manages a small team of engineers, scientists, and/or technicians assigned to a project task. Assists in business development activities including but not limited to helping to identify potential opportunities with existing clients and proposal preparation. Is an active participant in relevant professional associations including, but not limited to, taking on leadership roles, preparing papers for publication, and making meeting or conference presentations. Follows company quality, project management, safety and ethics standards, rules and regulations. Assumes other related responsibilities from time to time, as required. Requirements (Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position)
Education:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering. AutoCAD and/or GIS training and experience is a plus. Personal smart phone is required. Strong oral and written communications skills and demonstrated proposal/report writing and presentation ability. Demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.

Internal:
Work is normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment. No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of internal job duties.
External:
Visits to construction sites require the use of appropriate PEER provided personal protective equipment (PPE).
Physical Demands:
(The physical effort generally associated with this position.) Work may involve lifting and carrying, over short distances, packages, documents, laptop computers, and other equipment weighing less than 50 pounds. Visits to project sites involve standing and walking but most office duties may be performed from a seated position.

Experience:
Minimum of 10 years' related experience in water/wastewater design and project management. Experience working on Progressive Design Build Projects a plus. A PE is required. District of Columbia and or MD, Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) strongly desired or ability to obtain license through reciprocity within 6 months. Demonstrated successful experience in leadership, including defining and setting the direction for a team and project, and strategy development. Up-to-date knowledge of computers (including tablets), Microsoft Office, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other software used for project management and in the design and construction of infrastructure projects.
Pay:
$78,587.16 - $94,642.60 per year
