Aftermarket Design Engineer MP Equipment, LLC MP Equipment MP Equipment, LLC Description
Job Summary:
The Aftermarket Design Engineer is responsible for supporting MP Equipment's aftermarket and service business through reverse engineering, retrofit design, and field support of existing equipment. This role focuses on developing replacement parts, improving legacy designs, and implementing upgrades to enhance performance, reliability, and serviceability.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Reverse engineer competitor and legacy equipment components to support aftermarket parts business. Utilize standard and precision measuring tools (calipers, vernier calipers, micrometers, tape measures, etc.) to accurately capture field measurements and support reverse engineering efforts. Develop detailed 3D models, drawings, and bills of material for replacement parts and retrofit assemblies. Design and implement retrofit solutions to improve equipment performance, safety, and reliability. Travel to customer sites to evaluate equipment, gather field data, and support retrofit installations and troubleshooting (~30% travel). Collaborate with Service Technicians and Project Managers to diagnose field issues and develop corrective solutions. Support Sales with technical input for aftermarket opportunities and customer proposals. Ensure designs are cost-effective, manufacturable, and aligned with MP Equipment standards. Maintain accurate documentation of field measurements, design changes, and retrofit solutions. Assist in developing standard aftermarket kits and upgrade packages. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in existing equipment designs. Provide technical support to internal teams and customers as needed. Maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers. Ensure compliance with safety standards and safe design practices. Perform other related duties/projects as assigned. Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
  • Proficient with standard and precision measurement tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers and cross-functional teams
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with ERP systems (eciM1 preferred).
Education and Experience:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor's preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar program to design equipment and parts.
  • Experience with welding, machining, and grinding manufacturing processes.
  • Strong grasp of dimensioning and tolerance methods.
  • Working knowledge of sheet metal
  • Concept and understanding of CNC lathe and machining.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
