Full Job Description Overview Job Summary:
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will drive the development and improvement of composite part fabrication processes, methods, and tooling. Your role spans the entire production lifecycle—from the initial design of tools and introduction of new products to providing critical on-wing shop floor support and process optimization.
Essential Functions:
Process Development:
Create and integrate tools, machines, and facilities systems to produce high-quality products while optimizing capital expenditure.
Production Support:
Provide direct shop floor support, including the creation of detailed Work Instructions and Bills of Materials (BOM).
Statistical Control:
Establish and apply statistical methods to control processes, maximize productivity, and ensure quality standards.
Continuous Improvement:
Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies to eliminate waste and improve manufacturing efficiency.
Technical Analysis:
Review engineering drawings, 3D models, and specifications to determine optimal manufacturing sequences for composite assembly.
Equipment & Tooling:
Design or define requirements for robotics, lay-up molds, vacuum fixtures, and inspection tools.
Risk Management:
Perform safety audits, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and manage TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) for equipment.
Industrial Engineering:
Execute time studies, ergonomic assessments, and value engineering to enhance labor and equipment utilization.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience:
Proven track record in process qualification and implementing new manufacturing technologies.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Catia V5, Inventor, or SolidWorks). Detailed understanding of GD&T and engineering specifications. Expertise in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and ERP systems.
Communication:
Strong verbal and written skills with the ability to prepare professional technical documents for customer review.
Preferred Qualifications Composite Expertise:
5-7 years of engineering experience with a focus on carbon fiber parts.
Specialized Knowledge:
Familiarity with autoclave/oven curing cycles, and thermal expansion effects (wrinkles, spring back).
Tooling & Design:
