Job Description

at Rivian in Normal, Illinois, United States Job Description Sr. Chemical Engineers, Manufacturing Engineering with Rivian Automotive, LLC in Normal, IL. Lead the Chemical Engineering scope required to deliver Rivian's battery production facilities. Be instrumental in the design, simulation, and implementation of fluid, gas, and chemical delivery systems critical to EV battery manufacturing. Work closely with many disciplines and stakeholders in our production including automation, controls, mechanical, facilities, and EHS. Play a key role in standardizing processes, improving system performance, scalability and supporting the commissioning and operation of high-throughput manufacturing lines. Lead process simulation and optimization efforts for gas and liquid utility systems tools such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, and dynamic simulation environments to ensure steady-state and transient performance targets are met. Develop detailed heat and mass balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and system-level control strategies for battery manufacturing infrastructure. Predict system responses to dynamic changes during start-up, ramp-up, or process upset conditions. Collaborate with external engineering firms, OEM equipment vendors, and automation teams for design validation, FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests), and system commissioning. Translate process simulations into actionable specifications for instrumentation, control logic (e.g., PLC-based systems), and safety interlocks.
RQMTS:
Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Must have experience or academic training with: Thermodynamics, transport phenomena (including momentum and mass) and equipment sizing and rating; Leading basic and detailed design engineering activities for assigned projects; Overseeing the installation of equipment to adhere to contract documents; Working on the development of design standards for new projects and facilities; and Modeling incompressible and compressible fluid networks and their associated mechanical drivers (i.e., fans, pumps, etc.)
Salary Range:
$102,000-$131,000/yr.
