Over time, this role will evolve into leading larger projects and driving new machining processes. The position requires a hands-on engineer who can work closely with production, quality, and other engineering teams to optimize CNC machining operations, introduce new equipment, and continuously improve manufacturing performance. Responsibilities Spend approximately 50% of the time on the shop floor supporting machining operations, observing processes, and collaborating with production teams. Allocate about 25% of the time to CNC programming activities, developing and optimizing programs for various machining operations. Use the remaining 25% of the time in the office to manage and execute small to medium engineering projects related to machining processes and plant support. Lead and support new machinery projects, including project management, machine load evaluation, and integration into existing production lines. Evaluate and optimize CNC machining processes to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput. Troubleshoot complex machining issues on the shop floor and implement corrective actions to resolve problems and prevent recurrence. Redesign and refine CNC machining processes, tooling strategies, and setups to enhance precision, reduce cycle times, and improve manufacturability. Collaborate closely with quality, production, and other engineering departments to ensure robust processes and consistent product quality. Support the introduction of new products and processes, including process validation activities, when applicable. Apply CAM and CAD tools to create, modify, and maintain machining programs and process documentation. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging Lean Manufacturing and other methodologies where applicable. Prepare and maintain technical documentation related to machining processes, tooling, and equipment. Participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss production issues, project status, and process improvement opportunities. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field. 5+ years of experience in CNC machining process engineering or CNC programming. Strong experience with CAM software, with SolidCAM preferred. Proficiency with SolidWorks and the ability to use it effectively for machining-related design and process work. Advanced understanding of machining processes, tooling, and materials used in CNC manufacturing. Proven ability to troubleshoot complex CNC machining issues and implement effective solutions. Demonstrated capability to redesign and optimize CNC machining processes for quality and efficiency. Experience managing new machinery projects and evaluating machine loading and utilization. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Swiss-style CNC programming. Experience supporting new product introduction and process validation activities. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies. Background in high-volume or precision manufacturing environments. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with production, quality, and other engineering teams. Comfort working in a hands-on manufacturing environment around machinery and production lines. Work Environment This is a full-time, on-site role with typical hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There may be an occasional Saturday workday once per quarter, scheduled in advance. The facility employs approximately 100 people and includes manufacturing and machining areas where you will spend a significant portion of your time. The role involves regular interaction with quality, production, and other engineering departments in a collaborative, team-based environment. The shop is a unionized manufacturing facility, though this position focuses primarily on engineering and floor support activities. The machining and manufacturing areas may involve exposure to oil, coolant, and metal residue, and appropriate safety practices and attire are required when working around machinery.
