Position Summary We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support and optimize our wire harness manufacturing operations in South Bend, Indiana. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing scalable manufacturing processes, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting production growth while collaborating cross-functionally with operations, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams. Mandarin Chinese language skills are required to support communication with suppliers, customers, and manufacturing partners. Key Responsibilities Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for wire harness assembly and related production operations. Design and implement production workflows, work instructions, tooling, fixtures, and process documentation. Support new product introduction (NPI) activities including process validation and production launch readiness. Analyze production data to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase throughput. Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction. Collaborate with quality, production, supply chain, and engineering teams to resolve manufacturing issues. Support communication and coordination with English- and Chinese-speaking suppliers, customers, and internal teams as needed. Support equipment selection, installation, commissioning, and maintenance planning. Develop standard labor times and production capacity planning models. Assist in establishing lean manufacturing practices and operational best practices. Troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly issues on the production floor. Ensure manufacturing processes comply with customer, regulatory, and industry requirements. Participate in supplier and customer technical discussions as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Fluency in English required; Mandarin Chinese language skills required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications. Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of manufacturing engineering experience preferred. Recent graduates specifically have coop experience will be considered. Strong understanding of manufacturing process development and continuous improvement methodologies. Experience supporting automation or semi-automated assembly processes. Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process optimization tools. Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, and control plans. CAD experience (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar). Familiarity with production equipment, tooling, fixtures, and automation concepts. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems. Stand-Out Qualifications Experience with
IPC/WHMA-A-620
standards. Experience in wire harness, cable assembly, electronics manufacturing, automotive, or related industries is highly desirable. Experience working with international suppliers or manufacturing operations in China. Skills & Competencies Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a startup environment.
