Position Description:
The University of Louisville is seeking to hire a Project Engineer IV. The Project Engineer IV, with a specialty in advanced manufacturing, will work with innovative companies and talent to develop products and projects in support of the Department of War (DoW), with goals of driving faster commercialization, realizing scalable production, and ensuring warfighter-relevant technologies reach the field at speed and scale. This role combines technical expertise in advanced manufacturing, engineering project management, business acumen, and relationship-building to strengthen the national defense innovation ecosystem. This position will provide technical guidance for projects related to additive manufacturing, lead grant proposal development, and assist with industry outreach endeavors. This is a grant funded position with funding through August 15, 2027. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funds. This position supports defense‑related projects funded by a U.S. Department of Defense grant. An offer of employment is contingent upon the selected candidate being eligible for and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance (Secret or higher) and any necessary export control licenses to perform the job functions.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:

OnRamp Hub:
Kentucky's mission of strengthening the Defense Industrial Base by leading projects that require a knowledge of additive manufacturing. Participate with Speed School research faculty, AMIST staff, and the
OnRamp Hub:
Kentucky to generate research proposals. Lead industry sponsored projects related to additive manufacturing, including meeting project deadlines, budgets, and regular reporting requirements. Work closely with graduate students, professors, and other technical staff on a variety of additive manufacturing projects. Excellent communication skills are required, as this position will interact with a variety of personnel as they navigate academic, industry, defense, and federal funding landscapes. Manage and oversee engineering projects related to technology maturation, prototype development, prototyping, and engineering support to companies and innovators, ensuring timely milestones, risk mitigation, resource allocation, and cross-functional coordination. Track participant progress, technology maturation, program outcomes, and key metrics; collect and analyze data to generate reports and demonstrate a measurable impact on defense innovation (per relevant Statement of Work requirements). Engage with innovators, technology start-ups, and nontraditional defense companies to determine viability, TRL and MRL readiness, and suitability to the DoW. Lead the submission of white papers in support of DoW and proposals to the DoW and the defense industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or substantially related field. 3+ years of direct experience with metal-based or advanced fiber composite additive manufacturing technologies or research. Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts with a variety of audiences. Proven expertise in managing engineering projects, including planning, execution, budgeting, risk management, and delivery of technical prototypes or production-scale efforts (PMP certification or equivalent experience a plus). This is an in-person position.
Target Compensation Maximum:
$100,553.00
Target Compensation Minimum:
