Job Title:
Controls Engineer Job Description This Controls Engineer role focuses on supporting the development, standardization, and deployment of automation standards and specifications for assembly and machining applications within Global Propulsion Systems. The position involves close collaboration with subject matter experts to refine technical standards, develop and modify PLC logic, and ensure consistent implementation of automation practices across multiple programs and sites. The engineer will play a key role in identifying and resolving technical issues while supporting onsite activities at a primary technical center location. Responsibilities Support the development and maintenance of Global Propulsion Systems automation standards and specifications, with a focus on assembly and machining applications. Partner with subject matter experts to develop, review, and refine technical standards, documentation, and controls logic. Develop, modify, and optimize PLC logic to support standardization and implementation activities across programs and facilities. Assist with the deployment, alignment, and continuous improvement of automation standards across multiple programs and sites. Identify technical issues, risks, and gaps in automation systems and clearly communicate and track them with the program lead. Support onsite activities and commissioning efforts, with a primary assignment at a technical center location. Create clear, structured technical specifications and documentation for automation systems and controls. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that controls solutions meet manufacturing and operational requirements. Escalate and articulate technical issues effectively to stakeholders, ensuring timely resolution. Travel as needed to support implementation, troubleshooting, and alignment of automation standards at various sites. Essential Skills GM Global Common Controls System (GCCS) certification. Strong experience in Rockwell PLC programming. Strong experience in Siemens PLC programming and controls logic development. Experience with Siemens Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs). Proven ability to create clear, structured technical specifications and documentation. Familiarity with automated assembly and machining systems within a manufacturing environment. Strong communication skills with the ability to escalate and clearly articulate technical issues. Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams. Willingness and flexibility to travel as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications GFACS experience. Experience working within Global Propulsion Systems or similar large-scale manufacturing automation environments. Experience in PLC programming and controls engineering within industrial or manufacturing settings. Work Environment The role is primarily based at a technical center, with frequent interaction in a manufacturing-focused environment that includes automated assembly and machining systems. The Controls Engineer will work with Rockwell and Siemens PLC platforms, Siemens HMIs, and standardized automation technologies used across multiple sites. The position involves collaboration with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams in both office and production settings, and requires flexibility to travel to other facilities as needed to support implementation, troubleshooting, and alignment of automation standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Detroit, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $44.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
