Job Title:
Manufacturing Engineer Job Description The Manufacturing Engineer designs and develops manufacturing processes and systems that exceed quality, cost, and schedule requirements to support business growth. This role focuses on developing and defining concepts and processes for new products and product enhancements, while integrating specialized processes and techniques into a lean manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Evaluate and implement innovative, cost-effective, and safe manufacturing processes and techniques that improve the effectiveness of manufacturing operations and business systems. Develop manufacturing plans, including initial tooling requirements and costs, capability requirements, control plans, and assessments that define and support manufacturing processes. Create and implement manufacturing flows, workstation layouts, and station controls that optimize value-added operations, reduce operating costs, and improve product and process quality. Collaborate closely with cross-functional team members to enhance design for manufacturability and ensure smooth integration of new products and processes into the manufacturing facility. Provide regular project updates and status reports to stakeholders to ensure alignment, transparency, and timely decision-making. Work alongside advanced manufacturing engineers to support the setup and launch of new manufacturing equipment and processes. Participate in the runoff of equipment at supplier facilities to verify performance, quality, and compliance with specifications. Support the return, installation, and commissioning of equipment from suppliers, including observing installation, setting up production areas, and validating readiness for operation. Design and establish material flow within the production area to ensure efficient movement of components and finished goods. Create clear, detailed standard work instructions to support consistent, safe, and efficient operations on the production floor. Apply lean manufacturing principles and problem-solving methods to continuously improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance overall productivity. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering. 0-5 years of relevant manufacturing work experience. Experience or familiarity with manufacturing engineering and process engineering. Ability to apply lean manufacturing principles in a production environment. Demonstrated problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze issues and implement effective process improvements. Proficiency with MS Office for documentation, reporting, and data analysis. Ability to interpret and work with CAD software in support of manufacturing processes and layouts. Strong data analysis skills to evaluate process performance, capability, and improvement opportunities. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate clearly with stakeholders. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment is highly beneficial. Exposure to developing standard work instructions and workstation layouts. Familiarity with equipment runoff, installation, and commissioning activities. Ability to contribute to design for manufacturability discussions with engineering teams. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and implementing manufacturing processes. Work Environment This is an on-site role on a first shift schedule within a manufacturing facility. The environment is focused on lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement, and collaboration with advanced manufacturing engineers and other technical professionals. Work involves time on the production floor observing equipment runoff, installation, and setup, as well as time in an office setting performing planning, data analysis, and documentation. Standard office technologies, MS Office, CAD software, and data analysis tools are used regularly. Team members work in a structured, safety-conscious environment with clear processes and standard work. The position offers benefits including paid holidays and sick leave. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Grand Rapids, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $33.65/hr.
