Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace Composites)

Contract Duration:
Through end of 2026 (strong potential to extend into 2027) We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support ground test and production activities for aerospace programs at an onsite manufacturing campus in Lansing, MI. This contract role focuses on composite part fabrication, tooling design, and process development, supporting aggressive 3-6 month build schedules. This is a hands?on manufacturing engineering position requiring strong collaboration with design and production teams, with opportunities to contribute to repairs, continuous improvement, and cost?reduction initiatives. Key Responsibilities Develop and improve manufacturing processes and tooling for composite structures using approved models and drawings Create written and illustrated manufacturing instructions, Bills of Material (BOMs), and outside purchase specifications Support production operations, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and implement process improvements Collaborate with engineering teams throughout conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases Support material selection based on manufacturability and compatibility with existing processes and equipment Review and disposition nonconforming material (MRB) to technical requirements Develop and validate repair processes in collaboration with design teams Train production personnel on new processes and techniques Drive Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) initiatives and continuous improvement efforts Apply sound engineering judgment and data analysis to solve moderately complex manufacturing challenges Ensure compliance with established engineering and manufacturing standards Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other STEM discipline 10+ years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience Experience with mechanical manufacturing processes (machining, joints, fasteners, welding) Strong understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation Proven ability to work independently with strong ownership and execution mindset Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or similarly regulated industries Strongly Desired Experience Composite manufacturing experience, including: Fiberglass, aramid, and/or carbon fiber Prepreg and/or wet layup (epoxy resin systems) Bonded structures, surface preparation, adhesives Ovens and/or autoclave curing Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) Manufacturing cost and reproducibility considerations PFMEA development and implementation
Note:
Composite experience is preferred but may be waived for exceptional manufacturing engineers with strong fundamentals. Preferred Tools & Knowledge
CAD / PLM
experience: Creo & Windchill (preferred) or NX, Teamcenter, FiberSIM Familiarity with Non?

Destructive Testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic inspection, FPI, eddy current, X?ray, or optical techniques
