Job Description
Position Overview Engineered Materials is a materials converter specializing in producing precision tape, foam, gasket, and insulation parts for OEM customers. We are seeking a manufacturing engineer to support rapid new-part implementation, continuous process improvement, and equipment development in a high-mix, low-volume, repeatable manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for an engineer who is equally comfortable interpreting customer drawings, building robust manufacturing processes, and working hands-on with production teams to ensure parts can be produced repeatably, efficiently, and without ongoing engineering intervention. Core Responsibilities 1. New Part Introduction Own the full lifecycle of new parts from customer drawing to production release to end of life. Translate customer prints and specifications into: Bill of Materials (BOM) Bills of Operations (BOO) Tooling requirements Detailed work instructions and process documentation Execute new-part implementation with aggressive timelines; drawing-to-production targets of ≤28 days, often with multiple projects running concurrently. Validate manufacturability, tolerances, materials, and process capability prior to release. Ensure production teams can manufacture parts independently and repeatably without ongoing engineering support. 2. Continuous Improvement & Productivity Identify and implement process improvements to: Increase throughput and capacity Reduce scrap, rework, and variability Improve ergonomics, safety, and quality Lead or support lean initiatives, part production improvements, fixture improvements, tooling enhancements, and standard work development. Partner closely with operations and production leadership to prioritize improvement opportunities. 3. Equipment Specification & Implementation Support the specification, justification, acquisition, and commissioning of new production equipment. Develop equipment layout and integration, process validation and capability confirmation, and operator training and documentation. Drive practical, right-sized automation where it improves repeatability and capacity. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. 5+ years of experience in a hands-on manufacturing engineering or production engineering role. Proven ability to work in CAD, Solid Works, Creo, or related design software. Strong experience in high-mix, low-volume, repeatable manufacturing environments. Demonstrated ability to move quickly from concept or drawing to production-ready process. Proven capability creating clear, usable: Work instructions Process documentation BOMs and routings Comfort working on the shop floor and directly with operators, technicians, and production leads. Preferred Experience Previous experience with tape and gasket converting materials, processes, and tooling needs. Experience in converting processes, slitting, laminating, flatbed and rotary die-cutting, cnc cutting processes like laser, knife, router, or waterjet or related precision manufacturing processes. Knowledge of industrial equipment such as robotics, visual inspection systems, automation systems etc. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools. Experience specifying or implementing custom or semi-automated manufacturing equipment. ERP experience in BOM/routing creation and maintenance (Epicor or similar a plus). Attributes for Success at
EMI Execution-oriented :
comfortable working at pace and managing multiple active projects. Practical engineer : values manufacturability and simplicity over theoretical perfection. Detail-driven :
understands that documentation quality directly impacts production performance. Accountable :
takes ownership from drawing release through stable production. Collaborative :
works effectively across engineering, operations, and production teams. Why Engineered Materials Our culture focused on permanently solving real manufacturing and design challenges. High autonomy and ownership in a growing organization. Opportunity to directly influence how products are designed, built, and scaled.
