Our mission is to provide the U.S. Military, its allies, and the U.S. government with the longest-lasting, best-supported, and lowest total cost material handling, construction, engineering, and logistics products. We are seeking a skilled and driven Manufacturing Engineer to support and optimize all manufacturing engineering functions across Taylor Defense Products operations. Taylor Defense serves as both a Prime Contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense and as a subcontractor to Defense Primes and other commercial customers. Our core business includes new production of construction and material handling equipment, SLEP and Modernization of construction and material handling equipment, and fabrication and assembly of metal products including armor plate, crew protection kits, and tactical vehicles. The ideal candidate will play a key role in improving production throughput, developing methods, time studies, and optimizing process flow and workstation efficiency. The successful candidate will be familiar with fabrication, machining, welding, assembly, and finishing practices related to the production of heavy-duty and defense equipment. This role demands hands-on involvement, critical thinking, and collaboration with shop floor teams to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective manufacturing.Duties/Responsibilities:
Lead the development and improvement of manufacturing processes across all stages-burning, bending, machining, welding, assembly, and finishing. Conduct work time standard studies and perform methods analysis to improve manpower utilization and throughput. Work with production teams to evaluate individual and team performance, recommend improvements, and help implement changes. Support plant layout and workstation planning, including studies on material flow and handling to identify cost-saving opportunities. Recommend and help implement changes in material storage, process flow, and facility layout for improved efficiency. Assist with design-for-manufacturing feedback to engineering and aid in design changes that reduce production cost or complexity. Prepare cost estimates for prototype builds and new product introductions. Evaluate and improve informational flow systems (routing, BOMs, instructions) for clarity, accuracy, and usability. Assist in implementation of lean initiatives and continuous improvement projects. Provide training and support to other employees as needed to implement best practices in manufacturing engineering. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in manufacturing environments. Knowledge of heavy equipment fabrication, metal forming, CNC machining, and mechanical assembly. Proficiency in analyzing workflows, performing time studies, and process improvements. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities while keeping leadership informed. Preferred Qualifications AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential. Experience with programming and troubleshooting robotic welding cells. Experience with CNC programming, welding processes, and tooling design. Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing data management.
