Job Description

Manufacturing Engineer $95,000+/yr. depending on experience & opportunity for bonuses!
JOB PURPOSE
The manufacturing engineer at provides technical expertise to support development, implementation, and fabrication of custom thermal management solutions. This engineering position serves as a hybrid role between a product and process engineer.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/JOB FUNCTIONS
Cost Estimating:
Review product requirements to assess manufacturability. Prepare cost to manufacture estimates to the sales team for new products. Maintain system costing for existing products. New Product Introduction (NPI): Implement complete manufacturing data packages to allow for successful execution by the factory team. This includes ERP system creation of part numbers, BoMs, routes, and ECOs along with CAD models, drawings, and work instructions. Review specification requirements to ensure compliance.
Product/Program Management:
Oversee and support released jobs on the shop floor. This may include analysis for customers, process oversight, and fixture development.
Process Maintenance:
Handle technical process development and own overall process compliance for key departments in the factory. These may include dip braze, heat treat, solder, and weld.
Quality MRB:
Disposition non-compliant product for your responsible processes. Create rework orders or scrap parts as required.
JOB SCOPE 1.
Job Complexity:
Works on assignments that are complex in nature and requires high-level decision making to efficiently solve problems. Will exercise judgement to recommend actions to be taken in critical business situations. 2.
Supervisory Responsibility:
None, no direct reports. May provide training to shop personnel for responsible processes. 3.
Contacts/Interaction:
Will interact with every facet of the business to complete daily tasks. Sales
  • Process cost estimates and review new orders for NPI work. Customers
  • Product development, print/spec questions, program updates. Purchasing
  • Arrange orders for long lead items and process specific equipment/consumables. Vendors/Suppliers
  • Communicate requirements. Production Control
  • Work order maintenance and project scheduling. Quality Assurance
  • MRB/RMA activities and spec compliance. All Manufacturing Departments
  • Shop support. Other Boyd facilities
  • QA issues, part review and support.

Decision Making:
Has high-level decision-making responsibility. Failure to make accurate decisions or achieving results will directly impact operations.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS 1.
Educational Background (minimum level needed to perform) and/or Previous Work Experience (minimal level years and what kind) BS in engineering with 5+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment. 2. Special Skills and Abilities (computer, language, interpersonal skills, etc.) Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint. General knowledge of ERP systems; Oracle preferred. Knowledge of BOM structures and process routings. Proficient in CAD software; SolidWorks preferred. Knowledge of DFM practices for a variety of product types. Experience in tolerancing and GD&T. Knowledge of machine shop practices in a variety of different areas. Knowledge of statistical analysis tools. Excellent communication and project management skills, Gantt charts. Problem solving skills including root cause and corrective & preventative action. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with shifting priorities. Working knowledge of NPI, 8D, Lean, DFM, PFMEA, Control Plans, and PPAP. General knowledge of ISO9000 or AS9100 standards and performing audits. Experience with Defense and Aerospace products and requirements. 3. Licenses Needed, Certifications, Special Training Courses None required. SolidWorks certified preferred. Lean green belt or higher a plus. 4. Cultural Requirement Ability to function as a team player. Work in a manufacturing environment. Ability to accept personal accountability for successful job performance of self and limited accountability for others. Ability to initiate and offer suggestions aimed at improving service to our customers. Ability to communicate with inter-company, intra-company, customers, and vendors as required. (These skills would include phone skills, written skills, and email skills.)
Travel:
Less than 10%. May include occasional support for a customer or vendor audit.
