Full Job Description Overview:
Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Telecommunication Infrastructure Desgin Engineer to support a major national laboratory. In this position, the candidate will provide low voltage telecommunications infrastructure designs that meet industry standards, local & national codes and telecommunications design specification requirements.
Responsibilities:
Designs will include all aspects of the information communications technology (ICT) infrastructure to include Outside Plant, Inside Plant, Horizontal Cabling and Telecommunications Spaces. Well versed in NEC Codes regarding Telecommunications, BICSI Industry Best Practices, EIA/TIA Standards and IEEE Standards. Demonstrated experience designing fiber and copper cabling network infrastructures, an in- depth knowledge of telecommunications industry standards (American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)/Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA)), and BICSI recommended practices. Experience designing outside plant cable infrastructure systems and extensive experience designing structured cabling systems in local area networks in campus type environments is preferred. Expertise with developing specifications and drawings associated with construction projects. Meeting with end users/customers to define Scopes of Work, preliminary design for approval, final design, coordination Facilities employees, coordination and support telecommunications contractors and follow up with customers. Be able to foster an excellent relationship with both the Customer and team members. Be a self-starter with the ability to prioritize and initiate activities while remaining flexible to changing priorities. Have the ability to meet physical requirements of the positions such as, standing, bending, and lifting for duration of shif Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously Ability to work flexible hours and support on-call duties and shift work Ability to collaborate work effort between multiple groups.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus minimum 5 years or more years of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job. Must have an Active DOE Security Clearance. Must be
US Citizen Required Skills:
Minimum of two years of ICT Infrastructure design experience. Strong computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office applications are required. Experience with telecommunications testing equipment and tools. Must be experienced with infrastructure cabling, installation, testing and best practices for voice, data and VoIP. Knowledge of design drawing tool such as AutoCAD and Visio, advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications, working knowledge of a GIS-based design support software (Esri), Maintain a safe work environment by following standards and policies. Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical publications and actively seeking new continuing education opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Must have, be able to acquire and maintain a
BICSI RCDD
certification. A New Mexico Journeyman License
ES-7J/ES-3J
(Telephone Communications System and Telephone interconnect systems or higher) is desirable. BICSI certification
