Senior Design Engineer
  • Plutonium Facilities Rapid Response Team (DOE/LANL)
Location:
Los Alamos, NM | 100% Onsite (TA-55 and surrounding areas)
Compensation:
$89
  • 95 per hour

WHY THIS ROLE
LANL's Plutonium Facilities Engineering Rapid Response Team is seeking up to two Senior Design Engineers
  • one in Electrical and one in Civil/Structural
  • to support mission-critical facility design, operation, and maintenance activities at and around TA-55.
This is a senior-level engineering role requiring expert knowledge of
DOE/NNSA
codes and standards, extensive design package development experience, and the ability to operate independently in one of the most technically demanding and security-sensitive nuclear environments in the country.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify and lead activities within your engineering discipline in support of facility design, operation, and maintenance Apply broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the preparation of complex engineering analyses Perform all aspects of engineering operations and coordinate inter-disciplinary activities Perform conventional and unique design and analysis within your discipline Identify system integration activities within and across engineering disciplines Integrate construction and project activities and provide direct construction and project support Lead projects and supervise the work of others as required Identify and manage work process improvements to meet customer needs Utilize engineering technology and CAD/mark-up software to accomplish design work
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university Minimum 9 years of practical engineering experience in your discipline Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, and
DOE/NNSA
codes, standards, and criteria
  • including ASCE, ASME, NQA-1, IBC, IEBC, IEEE, NFPA, and NEC as applicable Proven knowledge of applicable codes and standards in common use at DOE and DOD facilities Extensive prior experience facilitating design package development Senior-level understanding of common engineering design document deliverables Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Subject to DOE Order 426.
2 Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements Must be able to obtain and hold a DOE Q Clearance and participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced engineering or technical degree Experience with computer aided drafting (CAD) or mark-up software Prior experience at DOE national laboratories or NNSA facilities PE licensure in applicable discipline Familiarity with plutonium facility or nuclear infrastructure design requirements
DISCIPLINE-SPECIFIC NOTES
Electrical:
Candidates should bring deep expertise in electrical systems design for nuclear or high-hazard industrial facilities
  • power distribution, lighting, grounding, instrumentation, and control systems consistent with
IEEE, NFPA 70
(NEC), and DOE electrical standards.
Civil/Structural:
Candidates should bring expertise in structural analysis and design for nuclear facility modifications
  • concrete, steel, seismic analysis, and compliance with ASCE, IBC, IEBC, and NQA-1 requirements. Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Q Clearance and HRP participation are required Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • no exceptions Minimum 9 years of practical engineering experience in Electrical or Civil/Structural discipline Expert knowledge of applicable DOE/NNSA and industry codes and standards required Must be able to work 100% onsite at TA-55 in Los Alamos, NM Must meet DOE Order 426.
