Job Description
SummaryUnder general direction of the VP/GM of Chutes and Lockers, the Design Engineer Standards develops, tracks and executes Chute and Locker Standards Group projects. The Standards group bridges the gap between Engineering and Production by creating production processes / setting up assembly lines, new tooling design and specifications, evaluating and implementing process improvement ideas and leading standardization initiatives. They are also on the frontline of whats next, leading customer driven standards projects - concept and approval stages, managing prototype designs including post-FAT revisions and new product development. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
Independently completes projects that can be either product/process improvement or production design process improvement. Contributes ideas for further improvements.
Routinely reviews Steele Solutions Project Engineer and Interns work for adherence to customer specifications and accuracy. Completes work on each project respecting adherence to design standards and production capabilities. All work must be completed in an efficient, accurate and timely manner. Manages multiple projects at various stages of Engineering process including: Customer Coordination and CommunicationInitial Project Sketch / Drawing and AnalysisApproval Drawings Review and Submittals to CustomerApproval Drawing Returned from CustomerRevisions and Project Change DocumentsFinal Detail Drawing Checking and ApprovalsCalculates project cost changes, scope changes and communicates those cost changes to Management, Sales or Project Management as applicable Maintains and updates a Project Database Provides guidance and technical support to Project Managers and Engineering supportIndependently completes production designs through utilization of design standards and tools in a 3D CAD modeling environment, often working outside the scope of the tools. QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or ExperienceProficient in Solid Edge and/or other applicable 3D Modeling Software Minimum of an associates degreeKnowledge of fabricating, welding, powder coating and assembly processes. Proficient use of measuring equipment such as tape measure, calipers and square.
Proficient blueprint reading and record keeping skills.
Problem solving, root cause analysis and ability to make decisions. Other SkillsStrong analytical skills.
Strong organizational, time management skills.
Attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools. Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional journals, and blueprints. Ability to write reports and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and other employees of the organization. Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires the use of hearing and eye protection when in the plant.
