OSP Design Engineer (Hybrid/Remote) Dobson Fiber - 2.8 Oklahoma City, OK Job Details 1 day ago Qualifications Managing projects in an engineering role Managing projects Full Job Description The OSP Design Engineer will independently work on the planning, design, and implementation of outside plant infrastructure projects. This role involves advanced technical expertise in structure and cable placement, cable splicing, and a focus on delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions that meet residential and business customer requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
Design & Planning:
Develop and refine comprehensive OSP network designs for fiber optic infrastructure, including aerial and underground systems. Create and review detailed engineering drawings, construction plans, and technical specifications using CAD and GIS tools. Create and review detailed cable splicing designs for FTTH/BAU/MDU/Network structures using GIS and CircuitVision tools. Create design budgets based upon all design and construction aspects of project deliverables that represent best financial results.Project Leadership:
Manage multiple OSP projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery within budget and scope. Coordinate with Engineering Manager, internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to resolve design and construction challenges. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and team members.Field Work & Compliance:
Perform field inspections to validate existing infrastructure, identify obstacles, and ensure designs are constructible. Ensure all designs comply with industry standards (NEC, NESC), local regulations, and company policies. Support construction teams with technical oversight during implementation and address issues as needed.Documentation & Reporting:
Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including permits, market zone budgets, splicing schematics, and as-built records. Analyze project data to generate reports and recommend improvements in design processes.Compliance & Standards:
Ensure designs meet industry standards such as NEC, NESC, and local building codes. Communicate with general contractors to ensure that all directions, expectations and standards are met with each deliverable. Stay informed on emerging technologies and methodologies in OSP design and execute into daily requirements.QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE
Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 3-5 years of experience in OSP design or telecommunications Strong understanding of OSP engineering principles, fiber network design, permitting, and construction practices. Strong communication skills for both internal and external resources to understand direction, standards, expectations across engineering deliverables. Advanced proficiency in GIS software, CircuitVision and other relevant design tools. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex design challenges. Proven ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
