Job Description

Bring bold ideas to life. Kai USA, home of Kershaw Knives and Zero Tolerance Knives (ZT) in Tualatin, OR, is looking for an innovative Sr. Industrial Designer to help take our pocket knives to the next level. As a Sr. Industrial Designer, you'll help shape the next generation of products in our sporting category—from early sketches and concept models to production-ready CAD. You'll collaborate with Product Development, R&D, Production, and Sales to create designs that look great, work beautifully, and can be manufactured at scale. What you'll do: Lead product innovation for our sporting category and help set the direction for new concepts. Spot barriers to innovation and recommend practical ways to move faster from idea to prototype. Explore new concepts and product-line opportunities for current and emerging business segments. Communicate ideas clearly through hand sketches, visual storytelling, and CAD models. Refine designs to meet customer needs, manufacturability requirements, cost targets, and market trends. Evaluate options across appearance, function, materials, production methods, and budget. Partner with Product Development, R&D, Production, and Sales to move concepts into prototyping and production. Keep concept files and design assets organized in an easy-to-use idea gallery. What you'll bring: A creative, detail-oriented designer who enjoys turning ambiguity into clear, compelling concepts. Strong sketching skills and the ability to communicate rough concepts quickly and effectively. SolidWorks proficiency, including the ability to produce production-ready CAD and supporting documentation. A strong working knowledge of design-for-manufacture, materials, and production methods. A track record of taking projects from early concepts through refinement and into prototyping/manufacturing.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (four-year college/university) plus 10+ years of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ready to apply? Send your resume and a portfolio (PDF and/or link) that shows concept development, sketching, CAD, and products that made it to market. A brief cover letter is welcome.
