Job Description

Piper Companies is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to support manufacturing operations in a regulated environment. This role is responsible for full ownership of facility controls and automation systems, ensuring systems operate reliably and remain compliant while supporting manufacturing, quality, and research teams. This is a full‑time, direct hire position requiring an onsite presence five days per week in Pittsburgh, PA. Key Responsibilities for the
Automation Engineer:
Own facility controls and automation systems throughout their full lifecycle, from implementation through ongoing support Partner closely with Facilities, Engineering, MSAT, Operations, and Quality teams on both projects and day‑to‑day system support Troubleshoot and resolve automation and controls issues to improve manufacturing performance while maintaining cGMP compliance Provide configuration, development, and break/fix support for PLC, SCADA, and data historian systems Maintain automation documentation, SOPs, training materials, and ensure ongoing validation readiness Support audits, quality investigations, system maintenance activities, and manage automation contractors as needed Qualifications for the
Automation Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline 6+ years of experience working in a regulated pharmaceutical or life sciences environment 4+ years of hands‑on experience integrating equipment with control systems (OPC, Ethernet/IP, etc.) Strong experience with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), SCADA platforms (Ignition), and batch systems (S88/S95) Familiarity with BMS/BAS, OSIsoft PI Historian, and automation infrastructure Solid understanding of 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, and GAMP 5 Ability to work in pharmaceutical manufacturing environments; aseptic experience a plus Compensation & Benefits for the

$140,000-$160,000 base salary Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, PTO, paid holidays, and sick leave where required by law
