Job Description
About the Company Pac Team America partners with global luxury brands and retailers to design and deliver custom retail fixtures, displays, and window installations. We manage the full lifecycle — from concept through production and delivery — working with a global network of specialized suppliers. Our work spans complex, mixed-material builds: watch and jewelry displays, branded windows, counter fixtures, display towers, and highly detailed scenic and environmental elements. We are expanding our engineering capability in Northern New Jersey. This role is foundational. It establishes the manufacturing intelligence and engineering standards that allow our supply chain to be repeatable, predictable, and scalable. About the Position This is not a drafting support role, a project management role, or a desk-only engineering position. This role owns manufacturing intent. You are the technical authority for how our products are built. You define materials, structures, tolerances, and assembly logic. You translate creative intent into production-ready solutions by collaborating directly with our overseas office and partner suppliers to determine and align on the optimal approach for a project's production. You sit between Design, Operations, and our supplier network. Drafting execution is supported by an in-house team. Your primary value is technical decision-making and partnership: working closely with manufacturers to review options, pressure-test assumptions, and agree on the best build method, not simply drawing a product and handing it off to be made. Because much of our manufacturing is overseas, this role requires frequent collaboration across time zones, including regular evening/night calls with China-based partners. This role blends office-based engineering architecture with direct factory and shop-floor execution. What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who has built things with their hands and their head — who instinctively knows how materials behave, how joints fail, and how to make something look exceptional while surviving production and shipping. You do not need to have built retail fixtures before. If you come from custom millwork, theatrical or scenic fabrication, exhibition builds, or a high-craft shop environment, you already think the right way. What matters is that you have owned the build — not just reviewed it — and that you are the kind of person who looks at a complex display or window installation and gets excited about figuring out how to make it. The right candidate might be a senior millwork craftsperson ready to move into a commercial engineering role. Or a scenic fabricator who has spent years solving impossible build challenges on stage or in film and wants to apply that skill in a more stable, senior capacity. Or a shop foreman from an exhibit house or architectural fabrication firm who is ready to take on a larger scope. If this work excites you, you will be excellent at it. Responsibilities Define how products are built, not just how they are drawn Translate creative concepts into buildable, quote-ready, production-ready solutions Decide materials, construction methods, tolerances, finishes, and assembly logic Simplify designs to reduce risk, cost, fragility, and rework Establish engineering standards so our products are not one-offs Review prototypes and samples with a manufacturing and quality lens Build partnerships and productive working relationships with our overseas office and partner suppliers, collaborating to find the optimal production solution Work directly with overseas and domestic factories — on the shop floor, not just via email Represent Pac Team's technical authority with clients and suppliers Your Background Strong candidates typically come from one or more of the following environments: Custom millwork, cabinetry, or architectural woodwork Theatrical or scenic fabrication (set construction, props, stage environments) Exhibition, trade show, or museum display builds POP / retail fixture engineering Custom metal and wood fabrication shops High-craft manufacturing environments with mixed materials and finishes What We Require 8-10 years in fabrication, millwork, scenic, theatrical, or manufacturing environments — with evidence that they owned the build, not just assisted it You should also be comfortable working across time zones, including off-hours calls when needed to align with overseas partners. You must be comfortable making decisions under pressure, working collaboratively with factories to evaluate options and converge on the best build approach, and representing your technical judgment directly to clients and leadership Can read and create technical drawings (but not a CAD-only profile) Has worked directly with contractors, shops, or suppliers in demanding production conditions Comfortable pushing back, making decisions, and owning outcomes Can speak with clients or internal teams credibly about technical topics Willing to travel internationally (primarily Asia) and work off-hours as required Overseas factory experience (China or Asia) is a strong plus. A formal engineering degree is not required if your fabrication track record is strong. Who Will Not Succeed in this Role This is not a fit for pure CAD drafters, industrial designers without build-side responsibility, or project managers looking to move into engineering. If you are not comfortable on a factory floor, making decisions with incomplete information, or pushing back when a design is not buildable — this is not the right role. Compensation & Benefits Competitive senior-level salary with full benefits: health, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, and generous PTO. Details shared with qualified candidates. Pac Team America is an equal opportunity employer.
