Senior Design Engineer Job Description Join a leading producer in material handling and robotics system integration. Our expanding facility in Greenfield, Indiana, specializes in custom automation engineering and manufacturing, enhancing our customers' efficiency with tailored material-handling equipment. Responsibilities Collaborate with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to design equipment integrated into distribution, production, and material-handling systems. Translate customer goals and operational requirements into engineered solutions. Support multiple phases of engineering projects, occasionally across several concurrent initiatives. Develop 3D models and detailed engineering drawings for custom equipment and system components. Perform hand calculations and engineering analyses to validate design integrity and performance. Create and maintain project documentation, including product specifications, testing procedures, and technical reports. Participate in cross-functional design reviews and collaborate with larger engineering teams. Estimate engineering effort required for assigned tasks and manage workload to meet project deadlines. Troubleshoot design challenges and propose solutions with increasing autonomy. Support prototype builds, testing, and design iterations as needed. Communicate effectively with procurement, project managers, manufacturing teams, and external partners to ensure design intent is met. Essential Skills Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline. 8-18 years of experience in machine or automation equipment engineering. 8+ years of 3D Modeling Design experience, particularly with materials like steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and sheet metal. Proficiency in Solidworks or similar software. Experience in stress analysis and GD&T. 8+ years of 2D Drafting experience. Knowledge of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and DFMEA. Additional Skills & Qualifications Machine design experience. Solidworks Certification. Work Environment This is an onsite, first-shift position from Monday to Friday. The role typically requires presence in the office between 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM ET, with an end time at 5:00 PM ET. There is remote flexibility for life events post-training period. The position involves approximately 80% desk work and 20% shop floor role, troubleshooting equipment and machines. The work environment is casual, and employees often wear jeans. The team is growing, with a current headcount of 7 design engineers onsite, aiming to expand to 14. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenfield, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.29 - $60.10/hr.
