The role requires significant direct interaction with products and operations and is therefore an onsite role at our facility in Rome, NY. What You Will Do This role provides advanced engineering support for the IGT VS production cell with a strong emphasis on tool design, tool monitoring, and sustaining multiple special processes. Due to the complexity of the components and the criticality of the special processes involved, this position requires an experienced engineer capable of operating with high autonomy and technical depth. The Manufacturing Engineer serves as the technical lead and primary point of contact for real‑time production issue resolution, new process development, tooling and process optimization, industrial controls troubleshooting (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA), and capital project definition and execution. This engineer provides cross‑cell and cross‑functional expertise, influencing process strategy and ensuring alignment with long‑term operational and product requirements. This role is essential to supporting production of critical flight‑safety hardware, enabling operations to meet and exceed safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) expectations. The engineer drives improvements in process capability, equipment reliability, tool life management, and long‑term manufacturability, directly reducing operational risk and enabling future capacity, technology upgrades, and business growth.
Process Optimization:
Coordinate and implement operations sequencing and specification procedures to optimize efficiency and quality. Planning and designing manufacturing processes, layouts, operational execution, and specification requirements to ensure full utilization of manufacturing equipment.
Process Design:
Plan, design, and select manufacturing processes utilizing materials, specifications, tolerances, equipment, fixtures, tooling, and work instructions.
Strategic Planning:
Collaborate with operations and design to support existing product line activities and/or operational process modifications to help enhance products and processes and ensure future business needs are met.
Technical Leadership:
Provide technical leadership and train lower-level staff to diagnose and solve problems and build capabilities.
Advanced Problem Solving:
Determine other technical matters required to make a given product according to the desired volume, timetable, cost, quality level, and other specifications.
New Product Introduction:
Design and develop manufacturing processes for products, taking into consideration problems inherent in the transfer of technology from research to manufacturing. Such design and development may include new or revised processes.
Data Analytics:
Monitor established processes via data collection for statistical analysis and conveys technical results to influence others.
Quality Management:
Monitor and improve quality control procedures to ensure that processes and products meet or exceed customer expectations.
Technology Evaluation:
Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in aerospace manufacturing, recommending acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials.
Supplier Collaboration:
Collaborate with suppliers and external partners to select or improve materials, components, and manufacturing processes.
Documentation and Compliance:
Maintain accurate documentation of manufacturing processes, procedures, and specifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Continuous Improvement:
Drives a culture of continuous improvement, implementing best practices and incorporating feedback to drive ongoing advancements in aerospace manufacturing.
Project Management:
Lead projects from conception to completion, coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet project objectives, timelines, and budgetary constraints. Optimizing work instructions to teams, especially with software solutions such as a Manufacturing Execution System, e.g., Solumina. Ability to write and communicate technical information and build consensus among individual-contributors and leaders. Demonstrated curiosity and passion in STEAM, specifically science or engineering. The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
