Onsite Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer, Automation Controls TCR (Taco Cranston) ensures the efficient operation of automated systems within Taco Cranston's manufacturing processes. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for optimization, troubleshooting control and mechanical system issues, and implementing improvements to reduce downtime and enhance productivity and quality. The Manufacturing Engineer, Automation Controls works with electricians and mechanics, manufacturing leaders and machine operators as well as other manufacturing engineers with the goal of improving process capability, lowering manufacturing cost, increasing reliability and reducing waste in the operation.

Downtime reduction Equipment uptime Improve manufacturing throughput to meet delivery and cost targets Responsibilities Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Maintains and troubleshoots existing automated systems. Validates and maintains control system design / architecture for new and existing equipment. Conducts root cause analysis to resolve technical issues within automation. Assists in trouble-shooting equipment control, mechanical and electrical systems. Performs controlled process improvement changes in programmable logic controller (PLC) systems, human machine interface (HMI) systems, and in level 2 server and coordination system. Prepares, organizes, and update project documentation (manuals, preventative maintenance, spare parts, correspondence, drawings, drawing lists, material listings, etc.). Standardizes the validation and maintenance of automation systems, ensuring processes are documented, procedures are created, and team members are trained and competent. Innovates and introduces new automated systems where appropriate. Collaborates with the operational team to develop and report performance metrics against targets to determine gaps in performance and recommends/execute improvement initiatives. Advises the team on improvement opportunities through requirements gathering, data extraction / transformation, organized analysis and effective visualization of information.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Technology, Instrumentation Technology or equivalent 2+ years of hands-on experience with automated control systems and machinery 5+ years working in manufacturing engineering Proficiency with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robots, machine vision, servos, human machine interfaces (HMIs), and various sensor technologies utilized in modern automation systems Proficiency with computer aided design software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks) Ability to read and troubleshoot PLC logic Experience modifying and creating PLC programs for equipment control Experience modifying and creating HMI screens Software skills desired in various languages, including PLC ladder logic, HMI design, structured text, Fanuc robot code, Python, SQL, LabVIEW, and Ignition Experience with pneumatic and mechanical systems, including reading, understanding, and modifying mechanical drawings, electrical and pneumatic schematics Knowledge of networked and distributed input/output (IO), Ethernet Internet Protocol (IP) and IO Link Experience with current safety standards, including International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electro-technical Commission (IEC), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Excellent analytical skills with the ability to understand advanced automation systems, troubleshoot problems, suggest improvements, and implement changes in a production environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent problem-solving and math skills
Preferred:
Lean Six Sigma certified Knowledge of lean manufacturing and 5
S Work Environment:
This position works primarily in an office environment using computers and technology. Verbal and auditory capability are required. Frequent exposure in production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent. Safety gear is required in these areas. This position reports into the site every day.
